White Sky Box is working, with program guide showing, but after initialising satellite connection, there's no satellite connection.  It was fine last night, and apps such as TVNZ are working.

Tuner status shows 0db unlocked.  It used to say (I think) 13db.

Has the satellite died completely?

There is already a thread here about this.

Nope, it won't have died, but as it wobbles further in its orbit, you will have edged from being a marginal signal to a non performing one,

 - as mentioned see the other threads, its all over the media at the mo....

Not really - this is an issue which only arose this morning, not the longer term replacement which is well known.

Up to last night, we had good connection with no dropouts - this morning it's gone completely.

Problem is at your end.

Looks that way - though somewhat of a coincidence.

Anyway, nearly two weeks wait for a tech in Wellington urban region.  They must have lots of issues with the satellite wobbles.

Yes, of course, but my symptoms were different to the widely reported ones.

Sudden complete loss of connection, rather than intermittent breakups.

sounds like it’s the same symptoms to be fair…

as someone pointed out earlier in the thread,  it’s all related.  Your dish was probably aligned marginally (plus we now know you are in a windy city so the dish movement is a certain…..add that to the satellite wobble (it’s also moving unexpectedly as opposed to geo stationary) and here we are.

Same issue with my new sky box, dish installed 14 months ago, getting ahold of support.
Why is the IP stream relay not a thing on these new boxes? I thought if we got rain fade it would kick into a stream?

Unfortunately no.  With the whitebox satellite reception is required, streaming is an add-on - no satellite no service.  With the Sky POD, streaming is the only option (no satellite).

The alternative to satellite service is the Sky POD, Skygo app (does not run on your TV) or Sky Sport Now (runs on your TV).

I can't get a signal but certain sports events from a certain menu seem to be using a Sky Go feed - I've been able to watch some of the AFC games from the 'live and upcoming' carousel on the home screen and selecting 'watch live' even though my satellite connection is bjorked.

There's 2 main issues, one being a batch of LNB's that crap out or go bad. The other being misaligned dishes. Some installs its even mix of both. Standard sky installs can easily tolerate a little wobble of the satellite.

Except for the LNB failing in March 2024 I've had ZERO issues on my Sky 60cm install that was a complete new install done 2 years ago.  I have yet to see any off the famous rainfade that people moan about.

just keep in mind that low signal problems go unnoticed until signal gets to low. very fine line between "pixilation" and no picture at all.

people honestly say theres is fine, but the signal can be, and probably is, weak. you just can't tell without a meter or reading signal screen.

Closing the story off here, it turns out there was a failure in the 25 year old cable from the dish, causing total signal loss to the box.  Worn through where it was clamped to the dish support.  No doubt a victim of Wellington weather over the years.

Now repaired and working fine, with a new LNB installed for good measure.
