The Optus D2 satellite is soon to be replaced by Koreasat 6

Its almost reached the 160E slot already

It has very high EIRP if the footprint is pushed south over NZ. It should end many peoples "rainfade" though it won't help those with dud lnbs

Is that the same one that was launched in 2010 with a 15 year lifespan? If so, presumably a pretty temporary fix.

One has to hope that a twenty five year old satellite has enough propellant left for reliable station keeping, until Optus 11 is launched, delivered to its orbital slot, and confirmed as functional.

Sorry, I stand corrected on the age - my maths is very poor this morning, 2025 - 2010 is clearly is not 25 years :-(

Still wonder about propellant level which is probably near exhausted at end of life.

Well, given Koreasat 6 is effectively EOL now, and Optus 11 isn't expected until 2027, this seems a bit like a bandaid on a bandaid solution. Hopefully 2 more years can be squeezed from it.

KS6 was moved from 116E over 2 months. Interesting the NORAD tracking site hadn't noticed it being moved.  Yeah it will have used a bit of fuel but it should do the job. The Optus D2 sat has an "inclined life of 5 years according to the Optus website" but i don't think that takes into account them having moved it from 152E. At 0.7 inclined its not exactly falling out of the Sky as some people would have you think.

The Old Optus D1 at 156E has a 1.7deg inclination and is still rocking some permanent transponders and daily feeds for channel 7 and various sport links.

Quite likely that once Sky moves off of D2 that it will be relocated to 164E the usual Optus Inclined parking spot.
