We have subscribed from time to time its OK. Picture quality is acceptable but not spectacular. If you have Spark mobile you maybe able to get it at a discount.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
The last time I tried to subscribe after a promo I found the Android TV app was so buggy nothing would play.
I haven't bothered to look at Neon since.

Thanks for the info.
Would be nice if I could find a promo, or a trial...

I'm subscribed, but finding less and less content I want to watch on it.
Will probably cancel for now and revisit in a few months.

It was a terrible platform when I last used it a couple of years ago. The biggest problem was that downloading to iPhone didn't consistently work, and when it failed it wasn't obvious until you find yourself on a plane or ferry and discover you have nothing available to watch. Also, the sound was only in stereo which seems outdated relative to the price they are charging to subscribe.
I am a long-term subscriber. It has some premium content that is not available in other NZ services, so I have been happy to pay even if the video/sound quality isn't top notch.
In the past the selection of recently released movies has been pretty good, although you do need to watch as in my experience they have been quite aggressive at removing content fairly quickly.
More recently I have found the new movie selection not as compelling, and also some of the same movies also drop onto Amazon Prime at the same time, so it doesn't have the same edge that is used to.
You can't beat it for certain exclusive series, all of the HBO stuff, Outlander etc...
Having said all of that I have actually just cancelled my subscription, as I had the choice of sticking to the more basic plan to keep costs down and put up with ads during the shows, or paying almost twice the price for the luxury of avoiding the ad interruptions. My wife got so sick of the ads that we've opted to take a break - will probably sign again up after 6 months or so when there will be all new stuff to watch, do it in bursts to save costs.
My thought are - Not even 30 year old AC3 audio on it. SDR content at a 20 year old resolution. User interface that lags like a 10 year old smart phone.
When I was watching it at a friends place the thing we were watching (cant recall what it was) showed obvious signs of 24 to 25FPS. Not sure if it was their crap TV or the apple box, but its unacceptable in anycase
Tried it for a month earlier this year. No one in the family found much of anything to watch on it, and the app on our (near new) TV was as buggy as hell. Unsubscribed, and probably won't bother again.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

We use it on an Apple TV device. The one glitch we've noticed is the audio playing without video. This happens less than 5% of the time & I'm not sure if it's user behaviour, i.e. exiting a viewing session as the stream is starting to play. We are also on the cheap tier with ads. In the last 6 weeks, they've upped the initial ads from 2 to 3. Admittedly, practically no ads during a binge session except a static display when pausing the video. Sadly, they are a SkyTV operation, but as rknz says, the source for HBO stuff seeing as HBO[MAX] is not available in NZ.
I'm no video afficionado or audiophile, so complaints like richms' don't apply to me. For various reasons, I prefer stereo.
