Anyone know is it possible to get Sky if I don't have a physically landline? Looking into future, I may be moving away from physical landline to VoIP. I currently have TelstraClear digital TV which I'll keep, and possibly add Sky MySkyHDi in another room which has Sky dish/cable already.

We had Sky Digital installed last year in September.  Sky tech didnt install a phone jack for it as was too tricky.  So dont need telephone to view sky.

Need telephone for ordering pay-per-view movies etc although you can do this by actually calling Sky (although that is a PITA)

Not sure about MySky?

AFAIK the phone line is only for pay per view? I have HDi that is not connected to a phone line and it works perfectly...

Balchy, have you use your MySky HDi for PPV without landline - without calling up Sky.

PPV isn't such a big deal for us, as we have been pretty happy with Fatso, and hardly do PPV on TCL digital tv at all these days. So it's not a big deal breaker, just curious that's all.

I phoned for a PPV movie once - it was quick and painless. (Surprisingly so).

I have Sky without a landline and never had any issues. I guess if I ever want to buy a movie from the Box Office, I'll just ring them.

One of the techs did install a phone jack but we have nothing plugged in it.

Do you use the automated IVR booking system or wait to talk to someone?

The automated booked is really easy, enter your phone number, select the movie, session time - voila, all done

I got My Sky HDi installed last week and I don't have a phone line, the installer was quite happy with that.

As the others said, it is only used for PPV

I spoke to a real person. They had me sorted in less than a minute, and were knowledgeable and polite.

This was last year sometime.

The rep seemed to have all the info in front of her, and never hesitated in getting it sorted.

We have MySky (original version) and it works fine with the VFX VoIP service when ordering PPV movies.

I would imagine that MySky HDi should also work, although the only way to know for sure is to try it.

I had my Sky landline disconnected years ago when I had broadband installed.

No problems what so ever.

Cool. Sounded like I could warm my feet into MySky HDi some point later this year, and have it installed in our (now) spare room.

Shame TCL isn't stepping up with their offer... stupid TCL!

I believe it only becomes an issue if you have multiroom. If you have a single decoder they dont mind, but if you have multiroom not connected to the phoneline this concerns them, as obviously one decoder could be used by someone else for much cheaper.
