Hey guys, I`m getting ready to leave the country and asked from my Sky subscription to get disconnected. Yesterday I got a call from someone who spoke more like a sales rep, rather than a customer service rep. Anyway, I was quite in the middle of a project so maybe didn`t quite make sense of what she said, but the way I understand it is that from the day I first ask to get disconnected, I still need to pay another month`s fee. Sounds like a month`s notice.

I never knew about this, otherwise I would have asked them earlier. I`ve done many disconnections, from similar services, and never heard of having to give notice. I`ve been a subscriber for 4 years, so it can`t be an early disconnection fee either.

Did I misinterpret what she said or is this the way things work?

You will need to check SKYs T&C on their website

From the Sky T&Cs

4.

TERM
Subject to earlier termination under clause 13 or as permitted by any mandatory provision of law, this contract will continue until terminated by either party giving 28 days? notice to the other provided that any notice given by you will not take effect prior to the expiry of the minimum term that applies under this contract (as stated on the face of this contract or otherwise agreed with SKY). Such minimum term will run from the date that the Selected Service can first be received by you.

Oh right, thanks. Bummer, what a bunch of low-lives.

maybe you could try downgrading to the "Free to air + pay per view" $18.29 per month package at the same time as giving notice.

I got caught by the same clause and downgraded to the cheapest option. The worst part was playing phone tag for a few days with the sales person who YOU have to convince you dont want the service. It wasnt even my SKY I was doing it for a family member.

I cant remember for sure but I think once I took the decoder in the stopped charging. BTW dont forget the remote otherwise you will end up paying for that also.
