Hi Guys,

On Monday I had sky installed with a promotion where I pay half the usual sky price for sky basic, sports and movies. Works out to about $42 a month.

I have decided that I want mysky so I can watch programming when I want. Something I have become accustomed to having used an HTPC for 4 years.

Only problem is, the phone rep says I cannot have mysky on my current deal. I told them I want to pay the $99 install fee and extra $15 a month + extra $10 for HD on top of the $42 I am already paying. They say I have signed a contract for 6 months of cheap sky and that I cannot get mysky until after the 6 months has expired. Phone rep said I could get the mysky if I agreed to start paying full price for sky, sports, and movies and then the usual my sky install and leasing costs.

What do you guys think of this? Do you think the call center supervisor is wrong or am I wrong in expecting to be able to get MySky?

If this is sky's policy, I have no option but to put up with it. But
how do I know I wasnt just talking to a sky rep (supervisor) that didnt know what they were talking about?

Why does Sky not want to take my money?

Check your contract - if it dosent mention you not being able to have MySky, then Id def argue it with them.

Its very common for companies not to combine promotions and certain products.

Might pay to check their terms and conditions?

I will have to check the blue piece of paper the installer left when I get home. I don't think that piece of paper will be anything other than the standard T&C the installers usually leave behind.

The only T&C on the promotional mailer I received is:

"Special conditions apply. Applies to new and former SKY direct subscribers only. Standard domestic installations only. Monthly sub payable in advance. Minimum package required is Basic for 12 month term. Offer ends 21 July 09."

This promotion is not advertised on sky website (as far as i can see) so do not see any other Special conditions that may apply.

Even if it were in the terms and conditions that he couldn't have mysky, I'd expect Sky to upgrade him so he is paying more money. Surely they should make some exceptions.....

Ask for a copy of the signed contract which should have all the info there.

If they can afford to turn down customers that are willing to pay a bucket load more money for their services, guess that tells you something, no? Even if there are T&Cs and etc. It's not like it's gonna cost them more or anything, seeing as they're still charging for the install and all.

I'd say they are being pedantic and if you spoke to the right people they'd let you have the package + MySky HDi for the additional (normal) fees.

The 6 months of cheap sky basic isn't going to change whether you're on MySky or basic, so I don't see their issue. It's not like you're asking for discounted MySky in addition to an already existing discounted service.

As expected, when I talked to someone at sky that knew what they were doing, it was no problem to let me get mysky.

Good help is hard to find...

I was in a similar situation as you are in now about 8 months ago, when I first had sky installed.

Sky spun me the same line that you are getting, that I would have to relinquish my half price sky package to get the MySky HD upgrade.  I politely, but firmly, informed them that that would not be acceptable, and that Sky should actually supply me with MySky and HD for free.

My argument was based on the fact that the picture quality from standard definition Sky digital was of an unnaceptable quality on my new 42" plasma, so I was initially requesting an upgrade to HD for free.

Eventually a compromise was reached where I could keep my half price basic sky, movies and sport, but I would pay the extra $25 for MySky and HD.

Good luck.

Interesting ploy, but was sky really responsible for your choice of TV ???

Glad it worked for you.
