I am in the same situation as you with 2talk and mysky. The HDi seems to update if I set the voice quality to the highest available in the 2talk web portal settings but the silver mysky box doesn't seem to update no matter what.
In the mysky survey recently I specified this as a big issue as I have had to disconnect the mysky modem due to the constant dialling.

Cheers Matt

Why do you need to have your HDi box connected to a phone line at all?

Sky say that it is a requirement for the HDi to be connected to a phone line (although they don't specify why) whereas all the other boxes are not required to be connected to a phone line (including mysky 1). From what I gather the mysky hdi grabs on demand listing information (not the on demand content though which comes ex Satellite). The down side of not having the HDi hooked up to phone line is a lack of current on demand content.

It is definitely not a Sky requirement for the HDi to be connected to a phone line. I don't and many of my friends don't. When my HDi was installed last year, Sky did not even mention whether or not I wanted it connected to my phone line.

The only downside to not having HDi connected to the phone line is the very rare occasion when I may book a PPV wrestling event - for my son and his friends of course!

Just to be clear, you do not need to have MySky HDi connected to a phone line to have updated listings of On Demand programs. There is only one feature that cannot be accessed without a phone line, and that is booking On Demand or Box Office programs. The up-to-date listings and previews can be accessed. Bookings have to be done by manually by telephone. Eventually (one hopes) Sky will allow VoIP connections to their boxes.

Modems over VoIP simply do not work reliably over most connections unless they are very low speed and you're using ulaw/alaw codecs with a very good connection.

Nothing that can be done to fix this - Sky just need to enable ethernet support in their boxes so the same data that is sent over the modem can be sent over the internet.
