I have word (inside info) that Discovery HD, Nat Geo HD and ESPN HD will be added to the Sky lineup 1-2 months after August 18 (when Optus D2 goes up). How do you feel about this? Good or bad? If you dont have Mysky HD would this convince you to get it?

ESPN hd would be great because at the moment ESPN is rubbish for quality , dont watch the other 2 but the more HD the better

Satellite concerned is D3. D2 is already in orbit. I bet any additional HD services off D3 won't start before December or January at the earliest.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Yes, I do mean Optus D3. It will go up August 18 2009. It takes Optus 40 days to align things and should be operational 40 days from August 18 2009.

Foxtel have bought 25% of Optus D3 and will be adding new channels in October 2009. Exactly what these channels are is still under wraps.

Sky have bought bandwidth on Optus D3 and will also be adding channels by the end of the year a (Not December or January) these will be Discovery and Nat Geo HD (definately) and they are currently doing a deal on getting ESPN HD.

Won't the quad throat LNB's have to be in place before this is a reality? I haven't been called by Sky for an LNB upgrade yet. If they want this all to be under way by October wouldn't they be trying to get the LNB upgrades done?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I live in an apartment (MDU) where a single satellite is split to the 6 apartments in the building. I wonder how this will work for us, as running now cabling from the disk to each apartment is probably not going to be possible

I already have SkyHDi, and those channels would be a big improvement.

I suspect that they will share those channels on an AU/NZ transponder to save bandwidth? There are no rights issues with any of these channels, so it would make sense.

Yeah well considering all of those channels are 'Australian' and just rerouted over to NZ thats probably what will happen

Don't Foxtel already broadcast these channels in HD?
