what happens to my existing sky digital decoder when they come and install the myskyhdi PVR?

I assume they take it away with them as you don't need it anymore.

Yes they take it away unless you are doing multi-room.
Remember you only rent the Sky equipment you don't own it. That includes myskyhdi despite shelling out $600.
