Howcome skytv doesn't have the bloomberg tv channel or the msnbc tv channel? Can't the skytv satellites pickup these channels? Satellite providers in australia have bloomberg.

Obviously Sky does not want to pay for the rights to re-broadcast these channels in New Zealand

Many moons ago Sky did broadcast one of those channels (or CNBC) before dropping it completely.  The return of a business channel (CNBC) likely came about because the amount that Sky was willing to pay was finally acceptable to the feed provider.

I do recall comments that there were more people watching Channel 0 (the mosaic channel) than the business channel.  Hence they dropped it.  Makes sense - if no one wants to watch it then why pay to broadcast it?

I think with the retransmission agreement between TCL and Sky that Sky has the first right on any content that TCL finds but given some channels (Bloomberg, NatGeo Travel and Wild) arent on the Sky platform the boffins at Sky beleive that the rest of the country arent interested in such content.

Anyone else know different?

MSNBC isn't distributed to Asia/Pacific which is why it isn't on either Sky NZ or Foxtel in Aus. I believe (could be wrong) that Bloomberg is free for providers so it must just be the cost of the satellite bandwidth that stops Sky from running it.
