Hi everyone,

I'm researching getting MySky HDI with the Vodafone offer.

Currently have the basic package and live in an apartment block, so an MDU with one Sky Dish for everyone. Would the Sky dish need upgrading if gettting HDI? If so, there would be no point in getting it, since there would be no chance of changing the dish here. My partner's sister got HDI a few months ago and I'm almost sure they did something to her dish (sorry, not bvery technically minded!).

We wouldn't getting the HD ticket since we don't have an HD tv or movies/sports but the My Sky HDI features like live pause etc look very appealing, especially after reading some of the reviews on here

For the use of Sky we had, we'd only be watching a channel and record another at the same time, but am a bit wary since the box has a tendancy to freeze or not record properly, so hopefully I won't be experiencing any of those.

Any extra feedback would be much appreciated!

When I upgraded about 2 years ago from normal sky to MySkyHDI the dish wasn't changed but the LNB (receiver) on the dish was swapped as was the coax cabling and an additional coax installed for the intended upgrade in the future of being able to record more than 2 other channels.
In two years I've had 2 freezes and easily resolved with power off/on cycle. Other than that it's relatively been trouble free and reliable.

The dish refit and new MySky HDI box all came as part of the install.

We don't have a HD screen yet but the rest of the functions are well worth the upgrade.

For some reason, I'm pretty sure the installer won't touch the dish, since it belongs to the Body Corp (who are hopless must I add)...they deal with separate cabling company for that, but I doubt they would come to upgrade the LNB.

I've been reading a few posts elsewhere on the LNB & SkyHDI and it would seem it doesn't need swapping out if the previous version of Sky is working of there currently, however, some kind of splitter will be required to provide multiple feeds to Sky set top receivers. If this splitter and the cabling is already in situ maybe the SkyHDI box is all you need.

I'd give Sky a call to be certain.

Thanks for your help.

I called Sky today, and the girl said there would be no need to upgrade the LNB, the technician will just adjust the box settings to the one on the dish. I might call in the next couple of days and see whether I get the same answer, just in case lol

I already have a splitter installed; I can't remember why they installed it off hand as it's been a while, just that it had something to do with recording channels with the DVD recorder and being able to watch another at the same time.

It's looking good, hopefully I'll get all the other details sorted out and upgrade asap!

Took the plunge and got MySky HDi installed 3 weeks ago - best decision I have made. No more arguments with the wife and teenagers about what to watch. I just go onto the sky website TV guide, find the programmes I want to watch over the next few days and book them. I just have to wait till they are not around or in bed then dial up the planner and sit back with a beer and chips to watch my sport and movies. I also got the HD 'thing' and sport looks fantastic. Yes there are only 7 channels at the mo and the Winter Olympics are not in HD but still worth it.

If you're not using a PVR then TV just ain't worth watching IMO.

I've had MySky HDi, the homecast freeview PVR and now I've got the MagicTV. MySky was the best of the lot IMO, it just made me realise that 95% of what we were watching was FTA TV!

That's exactly one of the reasons why we're planning on getting My Sky HDI. My partner and I watch different shows (I'm not too keen on Iron Chef or The Kardashians lol), which can make it a bit awkward trying to juggle around the TV guide! Had another play with HDI a few days ago at my in laws, and it was great

One thing I was curious about (and maybe I should start a new thread for this..) was with the HDD DVD recorder we have. I know Sky have this big thing about copy protection (I understand from a couple of threads on GZ that you can't copy something recorded on the Sky Box to a DVD ect) and I don't want to get in trouble with it, but would we be able to hook up the DVD player to the HDI box? No biggie if I can't, just thought I'd ask anyway.
