A friend a few days ago was rung by SKY with a free installation offer to switch to the MYSKY box. I wanted to do this too, so looked at the SKY website and saw 'free installation for March' and assumed this was the offer made to my friend. So, I rang SKY to get the same deal. But, no, the free installation was only for new subscribers (don't you hate new subs getting a better deal than you who have been paying for years?). I said, no, my friend is definitely not a new subscriber and was told that maybe it was a Vodafone deal. That is wrong, too. From what I can tell, my friend and I are in exactly the same position.

Anyone got any ideas as to what is going on here? OK it is 'only' $99 but hey, there is a principle at stake!!

Got a reply fron SKY. Looks like a lottery job. Pretty weird that someone else can give away SKY's revenue!

"These promotions are cold calling by a Telemarketing company, which is not part of SKY Television.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer you the same deal as this is not offered directly from SKY Television.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

With kind regards,

SKY Customer Services Team"

i remember when i first joined Sky, it was $150.00 through Sky to get it installed but someone knocked on my door and said for $99 i could get it installed and i had no contact with sky until it was installed so they have been doing it for years, im not sure what the telemarketing companies get out of it but it must be worth it.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

well cold calling does not equal lottery.  the telemarketers will have specific list of people - propbably people they have determined (somehow) would otherwise be unlikley to take up sky without the offer.
they don't want to make the offer to everybody, since some people will happily pay the $99 upgrade, and they would rather make money off them.

Had something that I would say was similar last time I moved house.

We called up to advise we were moving house and would require a technician at the new house as there was no dish installed and was advised by sky that there was a charge for that.

Well, at the time there was a promotion on for free connection, which when I pointed this out, was told it was only for new customers. So I advised them to cancel my current subscription and make me a new customer. Well the CSR wasn't too happy about this (probably the amount of paperwork!) and told me I can't do that. When I asked where in the T&C's it said I couldn't I was put through to a retention specialist who ok'd the free connection as long as we signed up for another 12 months, which I was happy to do (have been with sky for years with no sign of leaving).

Was it worth the hour spent on the phone getting the deal, and the 3 follow up calls because they stuffed up the paperwork, probably not. But the satisfaction was worth it!

Out of curiosity does anyone know the name of a telemarketing company that offers these deals?

I am currently with TCL customer and turned down a cold call offering 6 mths half price Sky with free installation as I was expecting the TCL Home Media box to be rolled out this month.

However, with the repeated delay of the TCL Home Media I am having second thoughts and want to take up the offer.

I'm curious too, I'm keen on Mysky HDi with the HD ticket. But am unable to find out if the deal is for non cold-called people.

Who did you contact to get the deal Drewpy? I presume it wasn't by calling the Sky number in post #2.

Contacted @skynz on twitter and asked about the current deal. They were extremely helpful. Mentioned someone would get hold of me in one-two business days, they rang me tonight.

Technician is coming tomorrow, I'm impressed they're installing the next day. Wonder if they've got a lul in new subscribers.

Drewpy, are you a new subscriber? Looks like free installation for new subs but us suckers who have paid for years get nothing (apart from my friend!).

Yeah - it really pisses me off that the loyal customers are the ones who are penalised at the end of the day, and the newbies get the sweet deals! (Come on people - get real and give your loyal customers something back for being loyal!!!) How... where to buy a FreeView receiver from...
