Once point of interest to me is this

Multi-Channel International Soundtrack

The MCIS is a broadcast-quality 5.1 television sound mix that will be produced to accompany the coverage of each match. The MCIS will be a mix of at least 12 pitch microphones providing ball sounds, atmosphere microphones including special Surround microphone arrays and ORTF Stereo sources.

The MCIS sound mix will provide exciting and immediate coverage of the game and crowd reactions, closely reflecting the picture coverage, but with the added enhancement and involvement that multi-channel audio brings to the coverage alongside HD pictures. The MCIS will aim to put the viewer inside the stadium ambience. A Dolby? E encoded multi-channel audio mix will be available at the IBC and at each venue. The Dolby? E stream will also contain an English Guide commentary.

The MCIS feed will be embedded on:

- Channels 5 + 6 of the BIF/ESF (HD and SD) as Dolby? E encoded signal

- Channels 5 + 6 of the EBIF Show Feed (HD and SD) as Dolby? E encoded signal

- Channels 3 to 8 of the CSF (HD and SD) unencoded as discrete signals

Will be intereseting to see if Sky take the stereo feeds (mentioned before the above quote) or the 5.1 surround sound. I remeber in UK a couple of years back watching a UK match on SkyUK with 5.1 surround, its was great.

it's possible Sky may well take the 5.1 feed. They did it for the All Whites v Mexico game the other month.

But yet there's plenty they don't take in 5.1 and should. Like NASCAR, and just about anything else sourced out of North America.

Thanks for the link.

Something similar - I find that on all of the NZ super rugby matches, I seem to have the same annoying kids yelling at me from the right rear speaker. They're following me!

almost all material produced by OSB HD will have a proper 5.1 sound track, which is rugby, cricket, A-League, Warriors games etc.

Almost nothing sourced from overseas is in 5.1, as to whose fault that is, don't know.

Fascinating document, even for a mere mortal.

The problem with US feeds of Dolby E are they are in 30F as opposed to our 25F. It's a decoding thing.
