Hey ive currently got my sky hd at home. However since im a massive football fan i wonder if theres a way to record the games externally as suppose to having it recorded to the mysky hd hdd? Since all the games will be on HD i dont think ill be able to record the whole cup.

So just wondering if you can give me some ideas on how i should go about this?

Freeview PVR, or PC with DVB-T attached to it?

TVONE has 11 of the games live, plus highlights packages (and TVNZ7 will be playing some games delayed etc)

Unsure if TVONE are getting the HD feed, but I think they are getting their feed from SBS who have it in HD.

Get a DVB-S card and a larger disk (80cm) and record them all in HD of SBS Australia?

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

SBS Australia? is that from their website or is there a tv channel available?

Yeah, SBS Australia is available in NZ, using a slightly larger dish than the Sky one.

You would need both dishes though, as you can't use the Sky box & SBS at the same time (different polarity)

What is the larger dish needed for? I cant watch it in HD on my STB since I dont have a HD one, but its on the same standard DVB mux as the other SBS channels isnt it?

SBS Australia is MPEG2 HD, so you don't need a DVB-S2. So any card will do.

Or you could record them in HD using a DVB-T card, with that stupid audio.

A word of caution though, it is entirely possible SBS may disappear in the next week or two. I have no inside info, I'm just speculating.
