Only new channel we're likely to see is "More crap that was cheap but we can say we're adding more channels" channel.

Sky Sport 3 HD

Sky Movies 2 HD (but in saying that it is nice to be able to record a movie 1 hour later in SD on Sky Movies 2, thus saving room on the HDD)

ESPN HD (or widescreen atleast!!) Tony O'Brien from Sky said that they are in talks with the supplier to get a widescreen version in the very near future.

And I would like Sky to start getting the HD feeds of NRL and some rugby union from Fox Sports instead of just getting the Channel Nine broadcasts in HD.

To say the truth,Tony O'Brien said that Sky will not be getting any new HD channels this year due to cost related factors and the amount of bandwidth taken up on the Optus satellite.
You have to remember that with Australias FoxtelHD (Iq2) costs $130 AUD a month, where as in NZ Mysky hdi with HD cost just over $100 NZD (if you subscibe to all HD channels available).

Be very happy to see them all!

But more importantly, how much more is everyone willing to pay for each new channel??

I am currently cutting costs and reducing the number of packages I have subscribed to.

Don't they have some transponders reserved on Optus D3?

I would be happy to pay another $10-$15 pcm if they added all the channels I listed.

I do not care for HD for broadcast TV. All I want is channels like listed in the original post and I want a better bit rate that shows less pixelation on my 42" (HD) LCD. And an STB with HDMI but not a $600 setup cost (don't need a PVR).  And Christian TV with "normal" programmes on it, not 20 year old sermons, saw 2 channels broadcast in AU which are good.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Apart from improving the broadcast quality of channels such as Discovery .... I have one very simple request:

A dedicated motorsports channel .... 24/7 HD petrolhead goodness!

ESPN HD or at least widescreen is the one most on my list.  Having being spoiled by ESPN, ESPN2, and just about everything else HD in the last month, I'm annoyed at missing out.

Byrned: Only new channel we're likely to see is "More crap that was cheap but we can say we're adding more channels" channel.

that is but the ugly truth.

every few months they'll put a new channel on that they can fill with endless replays of crud, taking up the smallest amount of bandwidth possible

Don't forget they'll also use a great proportion of the time to run advertisements.
