Was watching a replay of the previous race on tvnz, and it looked pretty crystal to me. But it doesn't say it is in HD on the sky EPG.

Sometimes... MotoGP produces all coverage in HD, but Sky doesn't always show it in HD. Last weekend, the qualifying was in SD on SS2HD, but the live race and highlights were both in HD (the highlights even had the HDi logo). Not sure about TV1.

Usually if motogp is on sky sport 1 or 2 it will be in hd (apart from qualifyin). It was strange the other weekend, they put world superbikes on ss2 in sd (which looked terrible) and then formula 1 on ss3 which has to be in sd at the same time. They usually put F1 in hd.

F1 has never been in HD and won't be until 2012. See this post: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=106&topicid=62761

Correct, but the F1 and last year's SD MotoGP feeds were clearly much better quality than Superbike. Even SD content looks much better on an HD channel because of the higher bitrate and upscaling. The Superbikes look pretty much the same regardless of what channel they are on. SS3 really needs to be HD  with all the content available now.

MotoGP qualifying (new this year, good too) is never in HD yet. But if the race is on an HD channel, it will be in HD. It looks fantastic too.

I understand SBK isn't that far away from being filmed in HD (whether Sky will get it is another matter entirely)
