Hope I can get some help here, because after 3 calls to sky they cant give me any kind of answer to my questions....

We have had MYSky HDI for a while now but on a standard TV, well a friend of mine just moved back to the US and I bought their TV which is originally from the US, It says its capable of 1080I,1080P,720P but it dosnt have a HDMI Port, it has a S-Video port, VGA port and component ports, now I have had a host of different information from the Sky techs, one told me S-Video can give me HD and another told me the component ports on mysky are inactive.....I am pretty good with tech stuff, but HD is new to me....

I bought some component cables as it said "HD Component" on the back of the decoder......but it has caused a few problems...first when I used them all channels apart from 1,2 and 3 wouldnt show up, then I changed the Sky HD setting to "Pass Through" and i got all channels but I cant see any channels that say HD on Sky, at the moment I am stuck and wondering if this is worth the trouble...

If anyone can tell me if its possible to get HD from Sky for this TV or do I have to go buy a new TV with the HDMI port, like I said I cant get any help from Sky cause they simply dont know!

I think you can get Sky Sports in HD via component but the other HD channels are protected.

There are HDCP strippers for a few hundred bucks . You may have to import....HDfury springs to mind.

Forgive the silly question...... but have you subscribed to the HD package?
Its $10/mth and will give channel access to Sport in HD if you already subscribe to the sport package, and to Movies in HD if you already subscribe to the movie package.

Both HD Sports and HD Movies are, to my understanding, on different channels and subscribing to the package gets them remapped on your decoder. If you're not subscribed to the HD package then you wont see any HD logos on the sport or movie channels.

TV1/2/3 are all free HD channels on passthru and do not require any HD subscription.

Yes we have multiple decoders in the house and Sky tell me it comes free because we have more than one and I have always seen those HD logos on those SKy channels that have it, so I guess they are right....

Because on Monday before I picked the TV up I actually called Sky to get it turned on, I was aware that you dont get it for free and thats when they said it was already on....

No HDMI means no HDCP, so the MySKY HDi isn't going to pass content if that is required. From the information you give HDCP is not being enforced on TV1,2 & 3 but is on the SKY Movies & Sports channels. I think SKY just passes through what TVNZ etc set with regard to DRM.

If all you're missing is SKY Movies & Sports then I think your only way forward on this TV is to ask SKY to remove the HD ticket so you get the SD versions.

No, surprisingly enough, the freeviewHD channels are downsampled to 576p over component connections, but as a poster said above, Sky Sports HD are not protected and show in HD.

The HDCP on mysky (or all devices?) just downsamples the signal, it doesn't actually block it.

I get all of my channels through analog (component) in the bedroom (decoder in lounge) and you can see the sky box changing resolutions when I go to TV1,2,3 - but all of the other sky channels stay at the same res.

S4D: Try going into the setup, find the picture settings, then high def settings and change the option so that the HD component is set to active.
Then set your picture to be a fixed resolution (1080i) and see how it goes.

Maybe it has something to do with the frequency of the signal as the sky box outputs 1080i @ 50 frames, - that US TV may not understand / support it. Whats the model number?
