I've got a "just the way it is" issue with Sky that seems to be contradicted by earlier media releases published by TVNZ.

In March 2009 TVNZ published "TVNZ 6 and 7 available on Sky" (http://tvnz.co.nz/technology-news/tvnz-programmes-available-sky-2586463)  which advises "The agreement provides for High Definition versions of TV ONE and TV2 to be available to MYSKYHDi viewers from June 1, for TVNZ 6 and 7 to be available to all SKY viewers from July 1, and for TVNZ to provide regional advertising on TV ONE from July 1. "

"for TVNZ 6 and 7 to be available to all SKY viewers from July 1," - OK no problem, but
"and for TVNZ to provide regional advertising on TV ONE from July 1." - I do not care about Auckland Glass, or any concert that is on in Auckland.

How come, today in November 2010, I'm still getting Auckland advertising on my Wellington MySky box when watching TV One HD?

The original explanation from Sky was that it might be my card, then maybe it's the MySky box until finally they've advised that it's that there's only one TVNZ HD stream and that tries to contain a minimum of Auckland advertising.
A bit of a runaround, but the last person I actually dealt with at Sky did follow-up and has offered me a little compensation for this inconvenience.

Still if there are non-Aucklanders receiving non-Auckland targetted advertising is Sky in breach of their agreement with TVNZ?

Hi, only the SD streams of TV1 are regionalised, not the HD stream, there is simply no space for it.

As it is standard (non MySky) Sky subscribers actually get their TV1/2 (and 6/7) from the FreeView muxs not skys, which FreeView have regional streams, hence the highly compressed nature of those channels, for HD subscribers there is only one stream and thats the Auckland feed.

Personally I dont give a rats arse about adverts, so they could be advert streams from Mumbai I wouldnt care.

I dont get why sky dont pre-load the HDD up with ad's they charge for and employ someone to tag the ad's in the channels and have the boxes swap them out in the recorded shows when people watch them later.

One of the main things we have MySky HDi is that we don't have to watch adverts - ever.

You still see bits of it when FFing. Replace that with "this commercial break removed thanks to the all new nissan whatever" or similar.

7 or so odd seconds of fast forwarding versus 7-10 minutes of adverts, I can live with that.Smile
