Ive got Sky Digital through their old Telecom "SKY Digital Start Up" package.

Has anyone "upgraded" their "SKY Digital Start Up" package to MySky HDI?

Im wondering if they will make me swicth to the regular Sky basic package through them if I try and upgrade.

Thoughts...

Same here, but I did shift to HDi quite a while back. I checked with Sky first and they confirmed it would stay as it was. It's always possible things have changed since then though.

Just an update, I upgraded no problem. Got a shock when the bill arrived and included a $99 "upgrade fee" but it turns out this was the install fee and my cheque hadnt cleared byt ht etime they sent the statement.

BTW I sold my Freeview DVB-S box on Trademe, what was interesting was the person who bought it said she had just cancelled Sky and that they said they were coming back to take the dish down. WTF? When did Sky start doing that?

lol - it must really be starting to hurt them.

I rang sky to disconnect and the "customer retention" person told me they had customers coming back from freeview because they liked to have a technician who would come out and fix things when they went wrong.

They also offered me a really sharp deal to stay but it wasn't good enough.

I can't remember the exact price but I think it was about $30 a month for the My Sky HDI box rental and each month they would pick an adult channel and a kiddies channel that we could watch for the month.  We would also receive the free to air channels.  Food TV and Disney were mentioned so I doubt they will be giving away sport or movies.

They would also come out and install a sky dish on our house for $49 (the box is currently in an apartment).

It's still expensive but not bad for sky.

When you say "an adult channel", you're not referring to the actual adult channels are you?  If so, they offered you a killer deal as a whole month of that would come up to a couple of hundred dollars!

No but I had the same thought as you when I wrote it.  I couldn't think of a better term.

I wonder how long the $30/month would last  (12 months?) and if I were to phone them and threaten to leave whether I could neogtiate a better deal than I currently have?... $30/month sounds a whole lot better to me!

I think it would last forever.  It's basically what they charge for the "digital downgrade" that they offer which is free to air channels with mysky.

It was the addition of two free "teaser" channels each month that I thought was quite clever.  If they get you hooked on the "goat herding" channel or some other dross (vibe, living channel etc) OR if they get your kids hooked on disney or something then you're back to paying them the big bucks.  In the meantime they cover their costs.

I am on the old Telecom-Sky digital package. Are you saying that if I was to switch to My Sky it will be the same price that I pay to Telecom?

2 separate friends of mine have had a phonecall from "Sky" to give them free install, free 6 months, and multiroom 3 months.  Wish they would ring me!
