why is espn's video quality worse than streaming a video on the internet? and also the content?
they have been saying that they cant add enough channels but how could they add 6 channels for the comm games and they were in HD. I really wonder how long will it take them to get 2 different ESPN channels so we can watch live Champions league games instead of the delayed ones. I know theres ESPN Australia who do have several channels but why cant sky nz get that?
Wish if government had some sort of say in this, or if tivo had some sort of deal with espn for fox sports for sports channels

The CW Games channels were able to be added due to Pay Per View movie channels being removed.

Prime HD was added for duration of games, but then removed.

Sky Sport 1 & 2 HD also showed coverage.

ie: the extra channels were only able to be added, after other channels were removed.

ESPN is a licenced channel. The broadcaster has to pay, so I can't see it appearing anywhere else (ie: Freeview).

The government isn't going to do anything, they have far more imporatant things to work on than worrying about Television!

Which ESPN channels does Foxtel have?
They have ESPN and ESPN HD which are the same content but obviously the latter is in HD.
Sky buys the same ESPN as Foxtel does - its a global feed. Foxtel is clearly willing to stump for the extra links via the much maligned Southern Cross Cable for its 1.5m customers who might want it in HD.

Foxtel has 3 Sport channels - much like Sky Sport 1,2 and 3. These are bought from Fox Sports which is a 3rd party supplier to Foxtel. There is a considerable overlap of rights between Fox Sports and Sky Sports.

You would like Fox Sports to also buy the rights for NZ and supply a sport channel in NZ? Over Freeview and paid for how exactly? Via Tivo for the 2,000 Tivo owners in NZ, if its even that high.

Incidentially Sky used to broadcast the Champions League over its previous SkyOnline service. I'm guessing that you werent aware of that but thats Sky's fault rather than anyone elses. Promotion is not a strong point......

the content on ESPN and ESPN HD in Australia does actually vary from time to time.

If you want more Champions League, SBS do show other games that don't involve EPL teams.

I'm not sure that Foxtel or Sky source ESPN via fibre, I suspect they source the feed off the ESPN mux on I8

During the blogging by Foxtel prior to its HD launch the Chief Technology Officer specifically noted that ESPN and ESPN HD linking would be via fibre optic rather than satellite.  At the time Foxtel moved ESPN SD from satellite to fibre.
