Currently just had the sky basic digital package.

Recently bought a new 55" LCD TV, and guessing there might be benefits in adding a MYSKY HDI unit.

Looking at the prices, its $15 p/m for the Mysky HDI box rental, then it mentions $10 extra p/m for the HD Ticket?

It also mentions that to receive HD content you need to subscribe to Basic, Sky sport and or Sky Movies?

Does this mean that as we dont subscribe to sky sport, or movies, that we would not get any HD content with a My Sky HDI box?

In this case, it seems a bit like a pointless exercise. Not really needing the box for the recording aspects, just a better quality HD picture.

Would we receive TV 1, 2 , 3 etc in HD without the HD ticket, or without needing to subscribe to Sport/Movies?

Thanks..

Not wanting the recording part of the mysky is a bit like not wanting a car for the going somewhere aspect.

Once you have it you will wonder why the hell you never had it before. It makes watching tvnz/3 bearable

Yes you get 1/2/3 in HD without buying the overpriced HD ticket. Well worth it for that too, but the recording, timshifting, FFing thru ads etc is the main reason to get one.

sbiddle: The Sky website explains everything with a simple search

http://skytv.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/127/kw/hd%20ticket/session/L3RpbWUvMTI5MjExMDA4OS9...

Thanks,

Wouldn't exactly consider it a simple search.

I clicked the link on their front page saying upgrade to HDI.

It stated the following: "To receive HD content you need to subscribe to basic, sky sport and or sky movies"

Maybe they need to look at re-wording their HDI page, as anyone reading that would assume they wont get HD content unless  they subscribe to sport or movies.

Thanks for the clarification.

They will not promote that FTA channels are received in HD without an HD ticket. They also focus on sports fans and movie channels, don't want people taking only basic especially if it is without multiroom, so is unlikely to clarify the HD ticket statement unless there is a ruling of some sorts (or Fair Go or something).

Yes, you can still get HD on freetoair channels in HD(if the programme is in HD) if you have MY SKY HDI Box.

I think it's more like if you don't subscribe to SKY Sport and Movies then it is pointless to have HD Ticket.

So a slightly off topic q - if I get a basic FTA channel card from Sky, and run the OSCAM setup, I should get 1, 2 and 3 in HD?
