since iSky looks like it is going to take forever to launch,  is there an interim relatively simple way I can stream sky sports to my netbook in the garden?

I have sky sports on my sky account,  but just want to be able to chill in the garden and watch the cricket on a nice day - it doesn't have to be HD or anything.

I have decent wifi signal in my garden and don't really want to spend too much money either, maybe $100 or so if necessary.

I've got access to isky but I can't say I have been able to use it as the videos don't load (the ads do funnily enough .... )and its generally a POS.

You'll need to have registered for the sky website I think.

If you have a capture card and two computers you wont have to buy anything! you can stream any sky channel over your network from 1 pc to the other over your wireless network to the other pc here is a tutorial that may help.http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/202012-How-to-stream-live-tv-or-video-with-VLC-videolan ive also managed to stream sky to my psp using a similar tutorial.

I have a desktop and a netbook.  Unfortunately the desktop is nowhere near the skybox.  (opposite side of the house),and obviously the netbook needs to be in the garden.

Maybe some sort of A/V sender/reciever from the skybox direct to the netbook via USB might work?

is there such a thing?

A/V senders are analog FM transmitters. You would need to feed output into something like a Tricaster to convert into flash and send to WowzaMediaServer or similar. Tricaster would be 10 grand or so.

P.S. I use Wowza/flowplayer to stream movies to my computers and iPad. Very good product.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Back in the day before the 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz video senders that are common now, you used to be able to a different type (I had one). It had three RCA plugs (composite in, left audio, right audio), you could adjust the transmit frequency with screwdriver through a slot in the back, and it transmitted at (from memory?) something like 800Mhz. At any rate, it transmitted in the UHF band and you could tune TVs in to it without having a unit at the other end. I think it was purchased from Disck Smith.

We used to use it to throw the output from the VCR etc to multiple units around the house. Plus, we were in a reception shadow and only the main TV/VCR was connected to a roof aerial and got a good signal. The quality wasn't great, but it was usable.

If you could find something like that, hybrid USB tuner sticks exist, which work for both Freeview and analogue. Throw one in the laptop, and you could use one of these to transmit the TV signal to it if the distance isn't too great.

I just got the same email with the same username and password.
Nothing works for me either, not even the adverts.

Ditto, does it keep telling you that you need to login to the site?  Looking at the content though, it just seems like this has been a mass of hype over very little.

yup. It's a beta,so I'm not going to judge it too harshly at this stage, but even a beta should at least let you login.

A dreambox or vuduo will do, dont use a chinese dm500 they are no good for streaming.  The webinterface on these boxes allows streaming of channels over the network or wireless to a computer/laptop with vlc player.  The only downside these boxes can be tricky to set up.
