Hi.  I'm thinking of getting Sky so I can watch the Australian Open which starts Monday week.  Do they just broadcast the Australian Channel 7 coverage, or do they have their own? Will they be covering the whole tournament? Do they use multiple channels to show multiple matches at once?

Also, how long does it take to get hooked up once I call them?

Thanks!

Hey

I am not sure about the coverage they have, from memory I believe it is the Australian coverage.

I can however confirm that it is all shown on Sky Sport 2 in HD. They show all the day, twilight and night sessions (from sky guide).

When we joined Sky we were connected within a couple of days. We got it for the US Open.

Make sure you ask what the current deals are when you call, you can probably get My Sky HDi for 6 months free at the moment.

Well sure, but why make a phone call when a stranger on the Internet with an answer might be just a forum post away! :)

Thanks for that.

I subsequently called them up to confirm, ordered it, and it got hooked up the next day.  Nice service!

The HD sports channels look pretty sweet, but most of the SD channels have kind of crappy video quality.  The Freeview broadcasts also seems slightly better quality than the ones re-broadcast on Sky.

(Plus, it's a total rip-off that you need to pay an extra $10/month just to unlock the HD channels.  Oh well.)

Arrr, really?  I looked briefly into what's available on satellites but when I saw Channel 7 was encrypted (intended for remote areas of Australia) I thought that's that.  Anyway, it'd probably be too much trouble trying to get satellite a dish in this apartment block.

doubt there'll be a free feed on D1, it'll probably be linked back via fibre to wherever in the CBD. Both the Sydney International and Brisbane International have had free uplink feed.

As far as I know, Sky will take the 'world feed' which varies from what Seven show. Understandably Seven will fit their coverage for a local audience. We're not fortunate to have multiple feeds of the outer courts from Sky.

I see Fox Sports had the rights back (Seven had exclusive coverage in 2009 and 2010 as I recall), so they will show other games that Seven isn't.

It's good to see it's in HD this year, last year it wasn't for anyone, as the host broadcaster wasn't filming it in HD.

Someone found it near:
Bris tennis12680V7190
Syd tennis12671V7190

and 12679 V @ 7200 (likely same as above) was ch7 feed as of 11th

Go to Sky's web site and have a  look at the program guide  http://www.skytv.co.nz/tv-guide.aspx
