In the last few days i have had a heat Pump installed but cant run it because as soon as i turn it on  sky reception is interrupted and a message comes  on the tv saying atmospheric conditions etc it happens on all units running of the dish (which is 3).
The installer says he has never had this happen and is not sure what is causing it but is trying to find out, and Sky came out to look at it but basically said its not there problem and they cant do much. The heat pump has its own circuit breaker on the circuit board so its been wired up correctly.

Has anyone had this happen or heard of it happening and more importantly, what is causingit any ideas how to fix it

Probably the power for the heatpump is running too close to the coax for the Sky causing interference. I'd bet the guy who installed the wiring for the heatpump didn't check this out.

Are you sure the heatpump has its own circuit? At our place, I wasn't home when they installed it, so they just looped it off the back of the power socket that supplies the TV and replaced the existing fusewire holder with a circuit breaker on the distribution board.
The compressors in modern heatpumps have a rectifier (and an inverter) so could conceivably cause electrical noise on the power circuit, or the earth circuit, which your satellite receiver may also be on. Wouldn't really expect it except on a faulty or no-name brand heatpump. Have you tried disconnecting the satellite receiver in the lounge (from power and RF) when you test receivers in another room?

Inverter or traditional? Brand?
Which model Sky box (get a number off a label if you have to)?

well i climbed under the house found the coax cable and moved it 2 feet to the left (just lying there) and now it works, and it was a Mitsubishi G- Inverter MSZ-GE71VA, so not a cheap one.

Make sure you feed that info back to the installer so that they don't make the same mistake again.

Inverter will radiate noise, but being a Mitsi it will be properly compliance tested.

There are rules about clearance between mains and data cables. If those clearances are maintained and if the equipment passed compliance (which is easy to fake/cheat) then there should be no interference. I'll post the clearance requirement if I can find it.

This is a common occurance and I am surprised the installer wasn't aware of it! It doesn't just affect sky, it affects any TV signal if it is run too close to the compressor unit outside

well after the installer contacted Mitsubishi, they said  they had never heard of there units affecting Digital signals, Analogue yes, they said the unit is on the same frequency as the analogue TV signal, so they want to see it happening  so they can fix it , looks like im the guinea pig for future testing Smile

What a great response from Mitsubshi! Most companies would say 'we've never heard of that before...' (therefore we'll dismiss it as a once off).
