Anyone see this last nite?? My wife watches it and as it was some thing I was interested in I watched as well. Anyone work for Sky NZ and care to comment on it?? The CEO of Direct TV went undercover with the installers, warehouse and call centers..

Looking at their website http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/new_customer/base_packages.jsp?footernavtype=-1 it makes Sky NZ look like a pack of robber barons. What a bit of competition can do..

There's a cable company in every town over there, not to mention the nationwide or statewide ones.

i was more interested to see that they had the same problems that sky has ie: having trouble supplying the HD units when they are needed and technicians having problems contacting there support centre when needing to.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

What I found interesting was the fact that they screwed the satellite mount to the tiles on the roof. It looked like they used some sealer, but surely putting the mount on the wall would be better.
And they make Sky look pathetic, but then they have a much larger customer base to work with

Yeah, if Sky has 18 millions customers, I'm sure they would be able to get moe channels / more HD, or be much cheaper.

I guess Sky work out new channels / programes at a per subscriber basis - small market = large cost per customer, which needs to be recovered (plus the News Ltd margin, of course)

comparing Sky to DirectTV is about as useful as comparing Telecom to AT&T.

Yes, they sell fundamentally the same kind of product, but the economics are totally differnet due to the huge scale.

So there for NZ diary product consumers should be getting milk and cheese way cheaper because we have a large scale and do it better than say the US or Europe.??

Europe has 450 million consumers buying product vs 4.25 million NZ consumers so as you will see on the internet goods will be cheaper as there is more consumers buying said products, NonprayingMantis was talking about economy of scale, another example coming back to the subject is a potential of upto 400 miliion US consumers vs 4.25 million NZ consumers in the pay tv market.

I aim to misbehave.
