The feed from Four (formerly C4) looks like garbage on Sky. Considering some of their programming has moved from TV3 where it was in pristine HD to Four where the picture is now rough-as-guts and SD, this is quite hard to swallow.

Has anybody seen Four on Freeview? Is it SD there and is the bitrate any better? Pretty poor show for a mainstream FTA channel.

Watching the Free to Air stuff on Freeview is so much better than watching it on Sky (NB We only have a standard Sky service, not HDi)

It's a pain, but use your Freeview tuner. Your eyes will thank you.

I have no problem with the quality of the FTA channels on Sky in general, and I'm not going to switch between decoders every time I switch between a sky channel and a FTA one... All I'm trying to figure out is if Four is HD on Freeview or not.

It didn't used to be. I am not sure if it is now with the relaunch, but it should be as they have moved their premium shows onto it.

Four is not in HD on any platform.

Mine sounds kinda distorted, doesn't seem to do it on TV3 or any sky channel.

Yep, noticed that on Sunday night when watching a MySky recording of the new Simpsons episode. Video quality was poor, with bad pixellation during scenes with a lot of movement, and sound sounded distorted, giving me the impression that it had been badly compressed. I wasn't sure whether the source signal was to blame, or compression during the recording phase (although we've never noticed this before with other MySky recordings).

Episode was still good though. Treehouse of Horror FTW! :-)

No compression occurs at the recording stage. The transport stream is simply copied to the hard drive. Obviously transcoding and compression occurs at transmission headend.
