I haven't been able to find this on the Sky or MTV or Viacom websites, but it sounds like good news for music buffs..

The standard MTV is more reality shows than actual music these days, so the chance to see some classic videos, plus MTV unplugged, Behind the music, Storytellers etc is very appealing for me.

It looks like it might be a relay of the Australian MTV Classic, which was branded VH1 until recently changing it's name to MTV classic.

So now we have a Comedy Channel, and a reasonable sounding classic music channel coming (jury's out- but looks promising).. Who knows- maybe that sci fi channel will be next?

I always thought that channel 63 (formerly J2) was pretty good. In what way do you expect this to be different?

I think it'll be refreshing to have actual shows, rather than wall-to-wall videos.

I remember watching Nirvana & REM doing some exceptional 'unplugged' shows when they were screened on Channel 2 back in the '90s - more of that sort of thing will be nice.

The 'Behind the music' shows can be a bit tabloid-ish & superficial, but the odd scrap of interesting archive footage pops up - hopefully this new channel has some of the stuff from MTV USA's archives too.. maybe in a show of it's own.

I'm betting the quality will be sub-par

The IDEA has potential.. i'm just hoping that the execution of it is reasonable enough.

A music channel for music fans - including new stuff outside the current top-40 & classic performances would be an asset

A line-up like this sounds good.. if this is an example of what we'll get:

well an MTV channel that plays actual music rather than 'reality TV' shows wall to wall can't be a bad thing.

Sky's offering of music television is poor, so any addition will be welcomed. I wish Sky would buy the rights to rebroadcast Channel V

Precisely.

There's an untapped market of "music geeks" out there.

People that don't want to see wall-to-wall top-40 pop videos.

Those of us that want to see docos on musicians, and the making of classic albums,  performance shows like MTV Unplugged, and  some old concert movies.

Also when they play music videos, have some good themed shows  - eg classics from days gone by (mainstream and alternative), and maybe a show with some new videos that might otherwise fly under the radar.
