Hello,

We just puchased Mysky Hdi, but had no idea that we would be stopped from recording some programs to DVD!!! (and from reading other never had this problem before, not with old Sky box, but other half, does not want to return it and get old Sky back so Im stuck!!!!

Im only wanting to do for my own personal use, not go and sell a million dvds at the market!! I read on here that there is a copy once feature but only for Sky movies and a few others, but not Rialto and thats my favourite channel.  Can someone PM me and tell me how to get round this, I have read different responses about cables, or a cable that could work, that could be purchases at Jaycar?? or overseas, but if it is at Jaycar I want to know what to ask for? Or where overseas, is it a splitter?
And then there is the thing of where to put the cable ....:)

Can someone help me out please.

Would be appreciated.

Disclaimer - I don't personally have a MySky box to try this.

Assuming that you can connect the MySky box to the DVD recorder - with other recordings working and its macrovision copy protection that is stopping movies from transferring - then a video stabiliser *should* do the trick. Jaycar sells one, part number AR1822, cost is $120.

This is what I used with great success to defeat macrovision and migrate a library of VHS recordings (that I owned and wanted to keep using) to DVD. It also worked with some non-commercial tapes that had degraded over the years, and where the recorder would randomly decide that signal fluctuation was copy protection.

You go MySky --->Video Stabiliser -----> DVD recorder, with either the SVHS or composite (ie yellow) video cable, depending on which you are using.

I don't know how this unit will cope with CGMS/A, which I understand the MySky box also uses. Perhaps someone who has one and has tried a video stabiliser with it can comment?

Hi there,

Thanks alot! Yes I have just been reading through more articles and it is a video stabilizer needed. All I want to do is tape a couple of documentery shows on Rialto, seems riduculous you cannot. My whole life you can tape from the Tv to Vhs!!! Then from Tv to DVD, now with damn MySky HD ..nothing!  I know why they are doing it, but it was just the same back then with VHS, but we could always tape from the TV.

Yes if anyone knows if that is the exact way to plug the cable from Mysky box to Dvd would be great??

Again thanks for your help

Why is it only copy once for certain channels??

There are DVD recorders that will ignore copy protection signalling. Some are specifically designed that way and advertised, others you need to search reviews/forums to find them. Some have secret codes for disabling the "feature" just like you do for making a DVD player region free. Often the cheaper unbranded players are better at that.

Google is your friend, search for macrovision free HDD recorder or something like that.

Some protection schemes require 2 signals/flags. One is stripped out when recording, so if you try to record again there is a missing flag and you are not allowed to record again.

Hi

I found it relatively easy to tape shows from Sky/MySky.

You need an HDMI cable ($52 approx). You plug it into the HDMI outlet of the MySky and then into the HDMI outlet of your TV.

Still can't tape HD programmes as yet. Pretty easy to record onto the dvd though.

$52?!

Can get a 7.5m one from CablesDirect for that kind of price http://www.cablesdirect.co.nz/catalog/entry?entry=284

Expensive HDMI cables are a rip off.

TVs have HDMI inlets not outlets and you haven't explained how you record anything by simply connecting the mySky to the TV.

1. To record MySky to DVD you simply go:

MySky (composite/SVHS) --> Video Stabiliser --> DVD recorder

Parts are readily available from Jaycar

2. HD recording is possible, but trickier (haven't tried it yet, have most of the parts except an obscure power supply cable and, funnily, a MySky). You go:

MySky --->HDCP Stripper --->Video Capture Device ---> Computer

There are several brands of HDCP strippers on the market - Google is your friend - cost around $130-$160 US. For HD capture you need something like the Hauppauge HD PVR, or a Black Magic Intensity etc. Blu Ray recorders irritatingly seem to lack HD inputs, so you have to use a computer capturing solution.

NB: If you are paying anything like $52 for a basic 1-2 meter HDMI cable, you need your head read. Look to pay $12-15. $30-35 if you *must* have v1.4 spec - which MySky doesn't need.

Of course if the MySky HDi had a decent sized hard drive to start with...

If you're not deleting it after a "reasonable" length of time, it's still illegal, right?

@motogpnz - I have the Fury2 not the Fury3, but otherwise that's the solution I meant.

@bazzer - Technically, but if it's for personal home use I doubt anyone really cares. Sky never cared when people hooked their VHS recorders and DVD recorders up to decoders - in fact, they hooked mine up for me. They never asked how long it was before I cycled a tape.....

Only problem with Vuduo is no EPG for HD channels, just now and next. Otherwise a great box.

This can be fixed by installing CrossEPG from the plugins menu, then editing config files so it points to the sky home transponder carrying the Preview channel.
