Not easy to work out from the confusing letter I received from Sky, but here are their new rates:

------------------------------------------------------------
Plan Name        Old            New (1/6/11)    Change
------------------------------------------------------------
Basic            $52.69            $47.66            -$5.03
Sport            $18.16            $25.29            +$7.13
Movies          $20.70            $20.70             $0.00
------------------------------------------------------------
Total            $91.55            $93.65            +$2.10
------------------------------------------------------------

These rates include GST and are sourced from the Skywatch magazines for May and June 2011.  The rest of their charges appear to be the same.

Probably enough to make me revisit whether I need sport (after the RWC is over). I watch it way less than movies now.

That Sky Sports pricing is probably just for the duration of the RWC! But seriously, I'm in the same boat - will certainly revisit keeping Sports after RWC is over.

I think the price changes are related to the HD'ifying of ESPN, not the WC. -->link<--

But seriously... Their prices aren't generally climbing very much... not like dairy products!

I have thought for a while that all customers have been subsidising the sports channels which are very expensive to deliver.

i guess the difference in price would be because ESPN would have a smaller subscriber base since its removed from basic package, so sky has to reclaim some of that cost so they can keep the channel and that its in HD now..

sky is the first thing to go when discretionary income becomes tight - as i expect it is for many now.

So, they cannot just put their prices up 5-10% a year like the power companies.

I'm gonna get rid of sky sports after the RWC.......

Big fan of the new pricing.  I only have the basic package as I get movies through Fatso, and not a big sports nut.

I pay for SKY basic through Telecom. Has anyone heard from Telecom about reduction in the SKY basic rates?

I've been meaning to get rid of sport for ages, once this came out i cancelled straight away.
Aren't all the RWC All Black's games free to air including all quarter finals onwards???
If i'm correct, i'm not worried about the other teams pool plays so why pay Sky for them.

HD and 3D are two reasons.

"Yeah, right". When do we get to see the 3D?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

They will be in HD on TV3 and TVNZ won't they?
