Read the article. Not news really. I mean it may be news for John Doe, but nothing very distant from what people have been talking around here for ages...

The only bit that was news to me was the TelstraClear bit about online rights. It would be excellent if TCL could stream stuff.

It would make sense if companies utilized Triple Play type services on the UFB network, as the popularity of UFB increases it would make it easier for new players to enter the market, as infrastructure will already be there. Its a long term idea, but short term patchwork ideas as a kneejerk reaction never work well.

The issue of course is licences to content.

Great, we have to endure more women's netball.  I may have a good reason to ditch my sport subscription after all. Undecided

ajw: Lack of rules means Sky is a law unto itself

I wouldn't (and haven't) go anywhere near Sky. A big chunk is owned by Rupert Murdoch and I don't knowingly give that maniac a dollar. He should be in jail for all the people he has effectively killed through his war-mongering media in the US and UK.

Exactly - also, to hear the way some people discuss it, you would think they were the only supplier of life-saving drugs or food. It's entertainment, and if you don't like what they offer just don't buy it. There are plenty of other entertainment options - eg:

- Go to the sports match at the ground
- Go to the Pub that has the sports match on, for a pint and some dinner.
- Rent a DVD of a movie
- Go to a movie
- Download a movie
- Watch a movie on Hulu (a VPN service will set you back $10-15US a month)
- Read a book
- Buy a games console
- Watch free-to-air TV (OK, I concede that's pretty marginal now. Although, they do sometimes still interrupt the ad breaks with the odd bit of program....).
