I read with some annoyance that Sky plan to screen adverts between the completion of the team hakas and the kickoff of the games. While I can understand the commercial FTA channels doing so for Sky in NZ I believe it is a money grabbing step too far.
Sky spokesperson Kirsty Way is quoted as saying "I don't think it's anything new.... It's nothing out of the ordinary and I don't think ANYONE ( my emphasis added) will be put off." Well you are wrong Ms Way, because I am already 'put out' at the news. Might just be put off whoever advertises in that slot.
Having spent time in the US I can assure you that constant interruption of events such as this can spoil the spectacle. The exception is Superbowl where the halftime ads are specially produced and can be entertaining.
Guess I'll watch the Maori channel for that 90 seconds. And I was looking for an excuse to cancel the sports package between the RWC and the Super15 and I appear to have found it.

I know, and Sky is putting ads on for the full 90 seconds. TVNZ only 60 seconds, Maori none and TV3 the full 90.

The Maori coverage is looking good to me... pity it's not HD

Thats ridiculous.

Especially on the back of very high profits this year, they hardly need the money.

Guess which of those channels get the most government funding so don't need the advertising (observation not complaint, don't turn this political).

Sky is running a business, and they show good profits.

We'll be spending a lot of time on documentary channels instead of WRC ad breaks, we know SA will win anyway.

Just watch the entire coverage on Maori TV, after all, you've already paid for it with your taxes!

Doesn?t bother me. I always delay watching an ABs game for ten mins anyway so I can fast forward through the endless dirge that is the NZ national anthem. All this will do is add a further step where I fast forward the ads after the haka too.

For those of us that have our surround sound on full blast for rugby matches, especially the opening haka, it kind of kills the mood when you get "HARVEY NORMAN 18 MONTHS INTEREST FREE! NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY!!!!" at 150% of the volume that the rugby match was at.

If I wanted to watch sport with ads in it I would not have sky and would watch it FTA

There are adverts at halftime and always have been. You are not missing any sport, it's the massive 90 seconds after the Haka and before kickoff for one game, whoopdee.

We never watch any of it live anyway, it's all recorded.

True there have always been ads at half time still not idea in pay tv land IMHO
For me the game starts when the players are on the field and ends when they come off at the end of the game.
When I first go sky years and years ago there was buggar all ads and that was what was cool about having sky and a good reason why you payed to have it, now days sky still take your money and have put more and more ads in everything not just sport talk about double dipping.
