NZ now has a regional setting in the N900, just need a new flag for our country and we'll be sweet.

Also deleted air crack Ng, the wep and wpa "auditing tools" before the update, essentially anything big you have installed from dev repos.

been bout a month since i ve own the n900 i like to have these improvements in the next firmwares , or is there any third application available now ?

1. able to write message in portrait mode ,mainly the on screen keyboard then we can type with one hand .
2. group contacts , there is a option there now but says "sim contacts" but cant put in individual groups ?
3. music on external speakers could be greatly improved  with a graphic equalizer , and if we could tweak it to sound  lounder , could nearly sound the same as the 5800 well hopes lol .
4. more options in takeing pics , also able to add music in background in movie editing as sum nokias have got it now .
5. yes of couse maps i am sure that be updated soon and more applications to play with etc ...
if any knows of any third party apps , please let me know. thanks

this looks interesting the
Mugen Power Nokia N900 2400mAh Extended Replacement Battery with Battery door ,

said to extended battery life but with a new back cover , seem to have lost the stand and the slide door for the camera cant make out from the pic much , i defectively get one if it extends battery life for another 2 or 3 hours , thats the worse complaint on the n900 at the moment ,heres the link :

dunno if adding an extra 7mm to the back and losing the camera cover and stand are really worth the few hours extra battery life you would get with this. My battery lasts a solid 36 hours now. All it takes is some app management and common sense.

Ok... Just left the Nokia Forum Developer Conference in Sydney. At this event they announced the N900 for Australia - no New Zealand date set yet though.

I was given one (although temporary loan)... So my first question is: how to update it to the latest and greatest firmware?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

just connecting it to the net should be enough. a little orange icon will start blinking in the status area at the top if there is a firmware update avaliable. alternatively you could go to app manager and click update.

Yeah...

If no immediate update shows when connected, go into the menu and select the App Manager app, and select the Update option...that will push any updates through.

On a side note...I see you have now included the default Maemo browser to be recognised as a mobile browser for geekzone mobile...
Not my choice personally...its designed to view full web...if I wanted geekzone mobile I would select the link...I know find that extra step of having to change from geekzone mobile to the full geekzone annoying....just my opinion.

I can't believe. I have this for one day and Nokia already asked it back...

And no, there isn't a 850Mhz version coming, so not for me if it won't work on Telecom XT.

I'm quite happy it doesn't work on XT myself. Because if it did, then I would have considered swapping to XT when I got the handset and thank god I didn't after all the problems that networks been having. Love the "Journalist" comment at the end. He/She deserves their crummy onscreen keyboard.

Good to hear your thoughts on the N900 MF.
Appreciate the links to this thread and my blog review, and look forward to reading your own review.
The possibilities and customizations with this device are unlimited...especially for those who speak in code.

How is transfer of media from pc handled? Do you have to use proprietary software like iTunes or is it a simple drag n drop to appropriate folders?

You simply connect up your handset (i use the supplied usb cable but you could use bluetooth) and then tap mass storage device. it'll then pop up on your pc where you can then just drag and drop media into folders.
