For Twitter...there are not many options....

The most full featured Twitter app currently is witter, which I recommend as your best choice.

An up and coming Twitter app that l.ooks stunning but is currently lacking featyrfes/functions, is TweeGo....updates are coming and TweeGo could likely displace witter as the best Twitter app for power users.

If you are interested in Facevook...the default N900 instaled app is hopeless, nothing more than a rolling feed...
A new Facebook app that is taking off and getting regular updates from its dev, is FaceBrick......that too is to become an for power users, going on what the dev says is coming.

The CP-408s have left the UK, transited Paris and China and are somewhere between here and there now :-)

Lazy question time, the device will notify me of updates to anything I have installed? Or I have to go to the App Manager and choose update?

What if I install something from the dev. repositories now and then the app is moved to the other repositories, I assume it will still update? (I am talking about TweeGo and FaceBrick). Thanks.

Good question.....

As far as I can tell, the 'update' button is all but redundant, as all updates do eventually show up in the status bar area....you dont have to do anything once you have an app installed, you will automaticallly be notified of any updates...

Having said that, I have still from time to time found updates via the'update' button, so I am guessing the N900 checks for updates at set regular intervals....otherwise you can use the 'update' button to force an update sooner that the set interval.

Yes, I use it. Unfortunately you can't have it automatically switch the APN to retrieve the MMS. So what happens is I get an MMS, I get informed it can't be retrieved. I then change my internet connection to the MMS one, and fMMS then retrieves it. After that I change back to my standard internet APN.

What difficulties are you having?

Just setting it up, configuring it...but I got it working now so no issue anymore....

Hardly the most elegant solution is it.....how do Vodafone normally do it, surely not jumping through all the hoops this app makes ya do?

Yeah it's a bit painful but better than nothing. I think the issue is that Maemo doesn't provide a way to have more than one data connection (The internet and MMS access) defined and an API to switch between them. That's why fMMS provides the seperate program to create a new data connection entry.

So on Symbian phones the MMS app can receive the MMS, switch to the different data connection, retrieve it, and switch back.

It would be much better if it was possible to retrieve MMS messages over the standard internet connection then no switching would be required.

2) We can assume PR1.2 is getting close. My understanding is the best bet is to run the backup app before updating making restore easy? Restoring after update doesn't make anything messy does it? (I'm fussy wih stuff like this, usually choosing a complete fresh reinstall rather than a restore)

The backup app is brilliant....saves everything, even a list of your installed apps and only reinstalls the ones you want after confirmation...you can and should do this for safety, but its not required as OS updates dont wipe the system clean....unless something goes wrong that is...

Does not mess anything up no...I have used it several times when reflashing....

PR1.2 cant be far off now...I just received about 7 app updates at once...all those coded with 1.2 in mid, because they have just gone and updated the compiler so that 1.2 updates will work on earlier firmwares.
