someone else might be able to comment about the fast dormancy difference between Vodafone and Spark Galaxy Note variants?

I'd suggest building a bridge and getting over it.

First world problem if ever I heard of one.

There's no legal reason why they would have to accept a return no, what they advertised is what you received. The phone networks can customize the phones when they import them, so an official NZ stock model will be either from Vodafone, Spark or 2 Degrees. The only way to get one that hasn't been brought out by one of the three networks is to buy non-NZ stock.

Playtech will work it as "Official NZ Stock" because I would imagine they buy in the models from who ever has the cheapest cost price at the time (it does vary).

I'm not sure if the Vodafone or the 2 Degrees have the logo on boot, and an app installed, but I would be very surprised if they didn't.

As others have said, they might accept a return just out of customer goodwill, but they would be extremely unlikely to swap it for another vendors S5, especially because it'll cost them more and they likely won't understand your dislike of the logo/app. So unless you can find it cheaper elsewhere, I'd recommend keeping it.

Thanks for your insightful input.

I don't like it but it's not the end of the world.

I wish you could block people from participating in your own threads on Geekzone, it's not the first time you've been unhelpful (putting it nicely) in threads of mine.

It's ok it annoys me but I can live with it, it was more a curiosity if it could legally be returned or not.

Was it promoted as a non network specific phone or a Spark phone?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Just advertised as "official NZ stock" which technically it is, just with Spark's customisation.

It's been awhile since I had a Samsung, SGS2, but can't you just flash the Vodafone image using Odin?

I've never rooted a phone before so wasn't really keen to.

You don't have to root the phone:

Instructions

  • Extract (unzip) the firmware file
  • Download Odin v3.09
  • Extract Odin zip-file
  • Open Odin v3.09
  • Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
  • Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
  • Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
  • Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
  • Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

Hmmm I would go and have friendly talk with them, you may be able to get them to exchange it.
The yahoo app is removable but I think you would have to Root it to get rid of the Spark splash screen which is
A pain and will void warranty
