Telecom have "locked" the phones WAP browsers to disable saving of images/audio/pictures from wapsites.
You need to vist a site which supports "media descriptor" files. which are a special file to "tell" the phone what to do with the media.
There are some commercial sites which can help you for this.
see some other forums here for them (sanyo 8100 or TX95c ones)
how it works....
The phone is instructed to go to
"http://wwwap.orcon.net.nz/9pm.gcd"
for example to get the ringtone.
the phone collects that file and follows the file instructions EG:
My laptop has IR and with the nokia suite available free at their site I can load up 6225's with ringtones, picture etc although pictures are most difficult and essentially a pain in the butt. Telecom phones I've used over WAP in the past have allowed saving of items, I got to that option by using the power button to bring up the menu but I wouldnt be suprised if they have disabled this function.
6225 is a nice phone and with a bit of personalisation it comes out alright, the images it takes can come out quite well and can be transferred off for free via IR+Nokia Suite too
My biggest gripe with being forced to PXT messages off is the automatic compression some phones undertake and the subsequent loss of quality. GSM phones with generic firmware (ie: not Sharp GX--) allow all sorts of data transfer between phones with IR and Bluetooth which is all good. CDMA has its ups and downs but I suppose if your on it already look into a Nokia cable or an IR dongle and get the suite.
that pc Suite which is over 25 megs, ARGH! All i want to do is send one picture to my Qtek pocketPC or laptop.. It works a charm with my Sony Ericcson t610. Totally agree on the LIVE! customisations. Yucky yuck.
the 6225 is a great phone. it's just a total shame on the modifications, the worst is the MMS size, Stuck to 45Kb. The beautiful images it takes at high quality setteing usually can't be sent!!!!!!!
Would we be waisting our time approaching Nokia as a group to see if we can resolve these Issues with the 6225? Im keen in formating a letter to them. We would need to accrue a list of people with the 6225 who want this issue fixed. I realise that Telecom are the ones who have spoilt it for everyone, i.e. Promotin it as an IR phone when really its only a 1/2 IR phone etc.
Yes it would be a waste of time, Nokia won't fix the issues for you cause there is nothing wrong, it's up to telecom since it's their network, they decide what to enable/disable. Since the phone has already been out for more than 5 months don't expect any major modifications, it's nearly end of life. Also expect future phones to have the same features disabled.
My opinions and ideas expressed in posts are solely my own and do not reflect the views of my employer in any way..
sorry - but it's not telecom that's locked the wap browser.
it's a standard for a nokia wap browser to only allow saving files if they are wrapped in a descriptor. there's a whole bunch of pdfs on forum.nokia.com explaing how a wallpaper or ringtone needs to be served to trigger the wap browser to allow downloads. likewise, there's info on the DRM that the phone supports and how to wrap a ringtone to enable this... These are features that nokia provide in their phones to appease telcos, who in turn need to appease content providers..
but - the bit that still bites is the disabled IR port. I recommend asking hard questions from a retailer before buying any phone. ask exactly what the IR port can and cannot do, and if they tell you wrong, return the phone.
I have decided the Nokia 6225 is as bad as that horrid sanyo. Ahhh i love my Qtek. Who can beat carrying around 120 gameboy or NES or SMS games in my pocket! with the web, Push Email, Word, Excel, Ebook, CD quality recording & mp3 music at the touch of a button. ahh bliss.
6225's main serious fault is the great camera pictures when taken at the best resolution usually can't send due to "45KB limiting" that's just plain dumb.
Go nokia, limit everything.
Still strange how the US 6225 and the GSM 6220 is able to download ringtones? a little too strange.
DRM sucks, If they want to curb the piracy, Give is what we want, Paid, quality, unrestricted mp3 format music just like (www.amplifier.co.nz) which is THE site but limited to Kiwi music.
(my rant for today)
