Imho almost all cellphones are butt ugly

BUT i like the nokia 6255 because of the simplicity of it.

So many of the nokias now are so ugly.. its nice to see a plain simple design

It's good to hear that the Sanyo 8200 is now on the horizon because, when this handset was mentioned here a few months ago, there were some suggestions that we might never see it.

The 8200 will make a good upgrade to the popular but aging 8100. I hope that it is launched with a sharp looking price tag, because the 8100 is currently going for $500, which is $200 more dearer than the Hyundai TX-115 and only $100 cheaper than the Sanyo 7600. I'd like to see the 8200 launched at $400 or less.

Well thats enough to brass me off.

The 8200 was the thing that started this whole roundabout going for me. I went to check out the 8100 and discovered that it was no longer a current model. That set me off looking at alternatives and eventually discovered the 6255i.

So let me get this right the rumour is:

That the A680 is delayed a couple of weeks (wifes new phone). Probably to much stock of the old dinasors they are selling now!!

The 6255i is butt ugly and telecom have disabled the bluetooth-- Why???

The 8200 is now a possability- Prob because it is getting near the end of its time (its been on the sanyo site for a fair while now) and they can get it cheap off Sanyo. So when do you guess this might happen??

I no one thing for sure I'm really getting sick of this situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meant to ask when the 6255 might be coming> even if it is ugly we in the building industry with loud saws, nail guns etc are wearing our ear muffs alot and the 6255 would mean I could still listen to the radio and not miss any calls if i had the ear phones on underneath. I miss some important calls at the moment. Also the big keys where an attraction. Alot of guys in the trades would over look pretty for practical. Even if it is ugly the feature set was really good!!!!

So any idea when/if we might see it??

Also if they have diabled the bluetooth can we still sinc it with a cable??

Well I've posted more questions than answers in the last 2 posts- Get your head around those boys lol

Noooo.. i didn't say that tc were going to disable the bluetooth. I said that they avoided bluetooth handsets... you can read all about the security holes in bluetooth on other sites. Supposedly the reasoning is that if they are going to use a military standard of security for transmitting your call, why bother letting people hijack your handset by putting bluetooth in it...

But hey - public demand is high for it, so who knows.

The answer is: There are still monkeys and apes for the same reason that there are still British, even though my great grandfather was British and I am a Kiwi.

...and as for when the 6255 will be available, I haven't heard anything since it went through PTC. My tester friend reckons that it won't be released in NZ, but that is just one guys opinion. My guess is that tc have plenty more testers...

It is not an over stocking situation holding up release of the A680. It is technical issues holding up the release. I am sure you agree it is better to have the issues resolved before launch.

I agree, just a bit frustrated at waiting for the 6255i. Which may now never come out. I know it isn't Telecoms fault if I listen to rumour (geekzone). But it has been a long wait and the features on the phone are really good IE expandable memory via mmc card. I will never have to run out of address book space again! I wonder also if you could plug this directly into a card reader and download your pics straight to your PC.

I could have had a sanyo 7400 B4 xmas. Everything else incl the Samsung a680 and the sanyo 8200 are pretty much of a muchness. Not a lot of diffrence between them as features go.

Are Telecom scared they can't sell the 6255 cause its not pretty. Well thats down to training their sales people as Im sure that if people (especially business) new what it had to offer, it would sell.

Oh well enough ranting!

Any more updates on the 6255i be sure to post them!!!

The 6255i is only in the very early stages of testing. Nokia is yet to provide stable firmware. It is ugly in a sort of 'designed by Lada' sort of way. Personally I think the MMC slot is useless as it resides under the battery. I really don't understand why they didn't use SD instead of MMC.

I definitely recommend the Sanyo 7400 - best CDMA phone I have ever had.

An sd slot may be better butt any slot that you can expand the std memory is a fine feature and if you can remove it to down load pics directly I dont mind removing the battery. An open slot in a mobile phone might not be a good thing anyway.

I'm outa contract and Telecom has a fine deal when you resign for a couple of years on new phones so thats why I'm waiting for the 6255 an don't want to go to the 7400 in the meantime.

No - the 6255 has not gone through PTC yet. Very basic testing so far. Long way to go.

Jama, at what stage of the testing are the handsets sent to the testers? Obviously they must be looked at by techies and not just the guys in TC who sign up to be on the testing team.

On the comments of MMC slot over SD.. I think you'll find it's the same slot. Should take either card. I may be wrong but they are usually interchangeable.

A long, long way to go. No where near field or acceptance testing. At the moment the firmware is 'test' not commercial so still a lot of bugs to iron out. Regarding the MMC slot it will not take an SD card - weird!
