Are Telecom going to round up PTT sessions to the nearest minute since they round everything else up? :-)

I have a Nokia 5140 and have been told that VF isn't going to enable PTT on it. So if you bought one of these phones hoping to use that, tuff. The store I called said that they won't ev3en have the PTT phone til Thursday so how exactly did Vodafone "launch" this service??? Def not happy with them since it looks like they stranded us Nokia users so that they could beat Telecom to market!

Which they didn't, since Telecom's Push 2 Talk (their PTT brand) was launched on the very same day and works with 25,000 PTT phones already in the market.

But how many of those 25000 users are going to use PTT?? Telecom have heavily marketed the 7400 to the teen market probably 90% of whom are all on prepay. Telecom said they haven't decided if they will introduce PTT to prepay (they will be bloody stupid if they don't).

I think that in the context it's correct... Vodafone launched a service with no support of handsets in the market. Telecom launched a service that has the potential to be used by any of the 25,000 handsets already in the market.

In terms of market penetration, since both started the service on the same date, I think Telecom is ahead. Next Monday we'll then find the number of people actually using the services, and then the metric will be different. If we use this metric now then it probably would be Vodafone 0 (no handsets) x Telecom 0 (lots of handsets in the wrong market segment).

Most Sanyo 7400s have been sold on Post Pay to business customers. Pre-pay P2T will follow. Telecom already have users - the first usage stats came through today. A large number of Sanyo 4920/7400 phones were purchased by customers wanting to use P2T.

I have been on it for some months now and while it doesn't really suit me I can see it does have uses. In fact I have new name for it - Push To Torment!

I'm one of those customers "stranded" with a Nokia 5140 and unable to use Push to talk.

I rang up the local Vodafone store today and it looks like the Motorola PTT phone wont be in store until Friday??!! the sales rep was told by their VF account manager that there may be support for the Nokia 5140 in the future.. fingers crossed!!

Why would Vodafone launch a service without the handsets to support it ready and available to buy???

To create buzz? Seriously, UMTS (months away) will be slower than CDMA EV-DO (now), and last quarter results were not good for Vodafone. So they need some buzz...

To create buzz? to boost staff morale??!!

how does that help customers? or VF staff for the matter that have to deal with annoyed customers like me who were sold handsets on features that may not be available????

WOW sounds if everyones wants Push To Talk.

Should have the guys at the parallel imoporters busy trying to fill orders.

There is some rubbish even from Geekzone you are a stirrer to get stats for your web site! Ha Ha

If you have any commen sense dont listen to the stirrers on rubbish in this post as above. (there is some accurate info by some members)

Go to a Telecom or Vodafone Store and compare the services for your own needs and will Push To Talk be something you need? It has it place.

Also the Nokia 5140 is a pretty basic ugly phone compared to the Motorola trade it in or give to the kids.

Vodafone 3G is real and for the unlucky ones that have not been invited to see it just wait and see .

see http://www.aardvark.co.nz/daily/2005/0221.shtml for some real home truths on PTT.

Maybe did anybody stop to think that perhaps the company that supplies the phone over promised and did not deliver on time how would that be Vodafones issue.

Hopefully you all have txt notification on for posts as Telecom and Vodafone will be making money out you.

Hmmm. It makes me wonder why you're posting here then. You can express your opinion, as everyone else - but don't make it personal. We are talking about the services not the people commenting on them.

Yes, it's for real, and I've seen it working. Still, I post it again: in its first incarnation it will be slower than CDMA EV-DO. It'll get better when (if) other technologies are released on top of it. Until then we have to wait to see.

Let's forget about all the PTT crap.

Who's going to be the first network to deploy Push To View? :-)

Regarding advise to try the two services, the point is we can't try the VF service since those of us that paid for the 5140 mobile designed for site work doesn't have a platform and the platform that VF does have, doesn't have a mobile! And just by the way, that Motorola, when it gets here, is a $700 phone
