onekiwiman: I was tinking of getting it from ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nokia-N85-UNLOCKED-GSM-Cell-Phone-NEW-in-box-NIB_W0QQitemZ370206886411QQihZ024QQcategoryZ3312QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You don't need to go overseas. I'd suggest getting it from Phones Direct, the extra few dollars makes up for the hassle and the wait. Phones Direct advise which of their phones are compatible with XT.

- Telstra HTC Touch Pro2 - Energy ROM WM6.5.5 20 Oct/Cyanogen Mod Froyo 2.2 - R.I.P
- AT&T Galaxy S Captivate 16GB on XT (now with brother)
- Samsung Galaxy S2 on XT- Runs ICS 4.0.3 Resurrection Remix 9.2
- Business Hours - Work In The Electricity Industry, After Hours - DJ/Turntablist - Will Scratch Vinyl For Free'
- What's next??? S3?

xrajux: Expert Infotech has the phone listed for $741.30 inc gst on their website, they are auckland based.

Stay away from them.  Just do a search in the forums and you will read endless stories of horrible customer service and after sales support.

Got a reply from MobiCity in regards to locking

----------------------------------------------------------------------
This phone is unlocked and will work fine on the XT network.

All you?ll need are your APN settings for mobile internet and MMS. They may be already on your new SIM, or you should be able to get them from Telecom NZ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Safe to buy from these guys (as far as unlocked phones go) if you find a phone there that you want.

No phones work on both yet, 6-12 months should see that change.

The radio chips that are inside phones don't currently support both 850MHz (XT) and 900MHz (VF extended) on 3G. Some new chips that do have been made, we just need to wait for the phone makers to put them in some phones. This should be in the next 6 - 12 months.

Just make sure its a "N85 Next G" and it will work, unfortunately these seem to be impossible to find at cheap shops

That's in aussie dollars so would cost more with the currency conversion naturally. One of the GZ'ers is getting one from here:

http://www.phonesdirect.co.nz/product-p/nok-n85-3-brn.htm <-- $870.00 inc GST.

Cheaper and already in NZ dollars. Both WCDMA flavours available for XT and Vodafone also. I will probably buy a phone for XT from them.

You should be able to AFAIK

aha !

URL: Set-up TWorld and WAP
How do I set-up TWorld and WAP for my mobile phone?

If you didn't buy your mobile phone from Telecom, you'll need to update your mobile settings to get TWorld and WAP.

When you first insert your Telecom SIM into your compatible mobile, you'll receive a text message asking you to update your settings. Just select 'Accept' to automatically update these settings.

If you've deleted the text message by mistake, please contact our mobile helpdesk on 0800 800 163 and we'll re-send the text message so you can update your settings, alternatively please visit a Telecom store.
