Hi, if I buy a Nokia E71 on the Telecom XT network, will I be able to plug in my Vodafone Sim card and use it on the Vodafone network? Reason is I can get small discount on the Telecom E71 but I want to stay on Vodafone :p

Thanks!

You can do.. Except you'll only get 3G in the cities where 2100 3G is present and will have to use GSM/GPRS across the bulk of the network outside the major cities.

If you buy a Vodafone E71 you get nationwide 3G coverage on 900/2100.

Hi guys,
I'm just wondering, if I get the Samsung C5220
(http://www.mymobile.co.nz/Mobiles/Telecom/Samsung/Samsung-C5220-XT/default.aspx)
Could I (at a later stage) if I put a Vodafone sim in, would it actually work?
(Band: Dual Band WCDMA (850/2100), GSM (900/1800/1900))

The reason I ask is that since 3 Degrees will be on the Vodafone network outside where its equipment is, I'm kind of hoping to future proof.

Just read sbiddle's answer before your post... And it's "2 degress" not "3 degrees".

Hi there,

Here you go

Telecom: 3G UMTS 2100Mhz (CBD's), 3G UMTS 850Mhz (nationwide)

Vodafone: 3G UMTS 2100Mhz (CBD's), GSM 900/1800 (nationwide), 3G UMTS 900Mhz (nationwide) in deployment phase

Devices that will cover both networks include any that typically feature chipsets that supportt Tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100) and quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) - examples include the BlackBerry Bold - but 3G UMTS 900Mhz not supported hence low data throughput speeds when on GSM 900/1800. 3G iPhone will work too - there are other examples.

I should actually read

Telecom: 3G UMTS 850Mhz (nationwide), 3G UMTS 2100Mhz (infill, sparse, not to be taken as main service)

Vodafone: 3G UMTS 2100Mhz (main centres), GSM 900/1800 (nationwide), 3G UMTS 900Mhz (outside main centres)
