If the phones didnt totally suck you would see a legitimate importer bringing them in. But they do suck, and the only people selling them are the flyby nighters on trademe that get a box/pallet full in, acrue many negatives because they suck and then move onto a new trademe ID.

Same as the crap MP4 players and crap wireless security cameras.

And I bet it has come with a dangerous power adapter as well, since thats pretty much all they ship out of china with.

They are all made in China mate. This one is not poor quality. I am now able to get Bebo, Entertainment, Home Page, Community.............just won't browse.

You sound like a fairly clever bloke and you would get lots of brownie points for helping people who don't understand as much as you do rather than just been flippant.

I am an electrical technician and I am very happy with the quality of the power supply.

China is the big boy in manufacturing so there is no point in knocking them....they make some very good stuff.

Really? The last one I saw that came off trademe came with a chinese plug with the non as/nzs3112 sheething on the pins, exceeded the clearance allowable and the pins were also the thinner chinese ones that arc in most kiwi powerstrips - thats before noticing no approvals listed on it which are a requirement.

If you can get those sites on it, then what is the problem? Its browsing fine.

yeah they are all made in china, those handsets are designed and the firmware written in china, for a chinese market where there are no requirements that goods are fit for purpose etc. If it doesnt work, the suppliers will not be any assistance because even if you were not on the other side of the globe they dont have to. No retailer will import and sell the goods with no backup, as you have found there is no support from where you got it from, or you wouldnt be asking on here.

Pins are same thickness as those on my NZ made toaster and kettle. Has CCCS&E Double insulated mark and CE.

Support was as you say a bit crap on this issue, but would they know NZ carriers settings?

One could say NZ carriers are crap on support for overseas phones, they offer none!!!

richms: Yes, but the operating system on those phones is pretty poor so its implimentation of the specs may not get on with the servers at VF or 2degrees.

Correct. If your phone has a non-compliant WAP browser it is possible the gateways don't understand requests and don't service them. Really hard to say on products of unknown origin.
