AFAIK all mobile phones have to be tested and certified by Vodafone New Zealand, and only then the model is available for sale on the Vodafone branded stores. Part of the certification includes testing - and adding if needed - Vodafone live! custmoisations on the handset.

Good point - it's not needed, but I guess Vodafone will require it if possible.

The three notes outlined in the first post of this thread are direct from the Sony Ericsson Email Support. I was told that the T630 will not be customised for Vodafone Live but it will still be available. I will post the entire e-mail in my next post.

(NB: It's not very easy to read, stupid email program, sorry.)

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center.

Answer:
Peter,
The decision on which colours to release is made in conjunction with local markets, operators, and dealers. There are many factors
to be considered, which mean that at this stage we are only preparing to release the black version.

Best Regards,

Question:
Subject: RE: Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center, Case : 70045794
Is there any reason for not releasing the white
version. It seems odd to limit customer choice. I'm
not sure if I will buy the Black version myself.
Wouldn't Sony Ericsson sell more if there was more
choice. It can't be that hard logistically to
release two colors.

Peter

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you
for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care
Center.

Answer: Peter, The phone will still be able
to access Vodafone Live, no problems. We have no
plans to release the White version at this stage,
only the black.

Question: Subject: RE:

Will the T630 be available in the White aswell,
personally I think the black looks terrible,
especially the keys. Normally Black and Grey go
well together, What went wrong? Also I assume
Vodafone Live will still be available, just that
the phone will not be splattered with Vodafone
Logo's etc... Peter

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson
Customer Care Center. Answer: Peter, The release
date is related to numerous factors. The T630 will
be black, and not customised to Vodafone Live.

Question: Subject: RE:Sony Ericsson Customer Care Center, Case : 70045794
Is the delayed release (compared to other
countries) because the Vodafone NZ network isn't
being upgraded (WAP 2.0 etc...) until about
February. Also, do you know how it will be
customized by Vodafone NZ? Their customization of
the T610 wasn't exactly of the highest standard
(Low Resolution Logos, Odd colours when the themes
were changed etc...) Peter

Has there been any update on this? You should set
up a mailing list for product releases to let
interested people know when they will be released
when it is announced. Peter

Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson

the T630 in New Zealand is yet to be confirmed.
As Sony Ericsson NZ is only a Manufacturer,
Pricing for the T630 will be set by retailers when
the phone is released in New Zealand.

Peteremcc is correct. I've just got an e-mail from a contact within Sony Ericsson. The T630 will not have Vodafone live! customised menus in it.

A snip of the e-mail:

"Vodafone do not customise every model that can be customised, they choice models that best suit the Vodafone Live! range. To customise every model possible would be a huge cost as both the handset and the www site has to be setup for each model, because of different screen sizes, no. of colours capable etc"

Yeah, some guy in local First Mobile thought it would be $799 (Not comfirmed, just his guess).

You can get it for about US$385 = NZ$585 on the net.

I have also emailed Sony Ericsson NZ moaning about how the T630 will only be available in black, the guy that replied kind of implied that if enough people are interested in the white model then they may also bring it into NZ. I am not sure how many people enough is but if you all email SE NZ and bug them about wanting the T630 in white then I think something may happen. If you also request that your email get sent to SE NZ management this may also help.

Get ya friends to do it and start a revolution...........power to the people =0)

Also there are rumours that SE are releasing a gruntier version of the T630, the current rumour name is the T650, this phone is supposed to have a 200,000 colour display, a 1 megapixel digital camera as well as having plug in memory card support. Again this could just be a myth but you never know, possible release spring 2004 (US).

Check the net for more rumours

I also mentioned to SE NZ that if we cant get the white T630 in NZ that people may have to order from overseas. The reply was that if we purchased from overseas then the phones warranty would be invalid in NZ, is this true or is this guy just talking through a hole in his head ?? I would have thought a a phones warranty if bought through a proper supplier would be valid anywhere.
