sonyxperiageek: So what happened to your money??

Also isn't debit card the same as credit card except it uses your own money (which is good)? So it should have the same security features?

I think he means he never used them because (rightly so) he felt they were dodgy.

Haha, yup :)

Rather trust my money with Clove or Amazon

Still quite sad to see a NZ company go downhill after one of the directors dies though

I have my galaxy tab in at omnitech for repair after the screen starting playing up. I brought it from Tech Brands in October 2011 and sent it to omnitech in middle of January. I've tried contacting omnitech about it but they just keep saying they are waiting for tech brands to reply, which I can understand because tech brands is their client, not me. But since they are in liquidation I don't think they are going to reply.

So I'm a bit pissed off now a tablet I used for about 2 months I'll probably now have to wait a long time to get it back, by then it'll be outdated.

Any ideas on what I could do, surely I have some form of warranty with Samsung?

Apparently TechBrands are not insolvent. I called up CAB and they checked on their computer, as of this afternoon, they were not insolvent and were still legally trading! That got my hopes abit higher than before! But they're probably catching up on stuff and probably electing a new director for the board. The CAB agent said that it was bad that TechBrands had not elected a new director after the old one died. (He even had known that the old director had died after he checked his computer).

I don't know if electing a new director to the board is going to make a lot of difference. With a business like Techbrands there won't be a board sitting around figuring what to do...

I am sure their overseas agent has run off with their cash.

In order for a business like Techbrands to effectively trade they need an ongoing income stream. They work on the skinniest of margins and require a high stock turnover to make a buck.

The problem is that the income has dried up and their reputation is shot. Unless they front up with some product they are not going to trade again and it is all over....

I had a word to Fair Go and it is all pretty complicated and not looking good for refunds. I suspect TechBrands might appear on air on FairGo shortly. It will be interesting to see what they have to say for themselves in public. Sonyxperiageek: Have you talked to Fairgo?

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

You could try target, which these days IMO is now a better show. But fairgo isn't on at the moment, so they may not be fully staffed yet to deal with things.

Fair Go are back on the 15th of Feb. I am surprised they haven't got back to you. Did you document your entire experience for them?

yeah..here it is:

Addressed to: fairgo@tvnz.co.nz

Hello there

I am having current issues with TechBrands at the moment. I had ordered from TechBrands (which was 'very!!' stupid!!) on the 28/12/2011 and got my payment cleared on the 9th of January 2012. Was told it would come next week..next week.. no parcel, called and they again said next week!. nextweek...no parcel.. called again and they said their supplier couldn't ship because they were on holiday from Chinese New Year, so I ordered a refund. They had approved it and on my status it says 'Awaiting Refund'. Each day I check on them by email and 'Kristina' said she could not tell me anything but would let me know as soon as she knew something.' Two days (26/01/2012) later i email to check up and the email says "The TechBrands pacific office has ceased trading and is now closed! Will check emails daily and respond as soon as we can.." Then I email 'brad.roberts@techbrands.co.nz' and he says I now have to go through the Disputes Tribunal to get my claim and that the company is insolvent.
And i had paid by internet banking...
Is there any help I can get???
Just lost alot of money you know... Thanks!

I am sorry to hear of your troubles. Happily I bought my Xperia Play from Fair Buy after hearing yours and others experiences with tech brands. I do hope it all gets resolved for you in the end.

Hi all!

I am a reporter for Dominion Post in Wellington. I am looking for a Wellington or lower North Island person who has had trouble with Tech Brands and are awaiting pay back or products. If you have, or know of anyone who has can you please private message me and let me know. Note: We will require you not to be media shy. Thanks! : )

Ha, the director was dodgy-as himself, selling refurbished phones as new.

February 22 is the date for Techbrands on Fair Go.

I got my charge back from the credit card company so am no longer a creditor. Good luck with those of you with money still outstanding.

Cheers, Matt.
