JamesL: You don't have to root the phone:
Instructions

Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

I'd say that's only applicable if rooting, flashing a stock image isn't going to void it

I've never understood why replacing software on a piece of hardware voids a hardware warranty

I can see some point if the software will make component perform not to specification. But generally it garbage. But I guess we have to live with it.

No, your warranty CAN'T be voided here in NZ with flashing software on a physical device you own IIRC

The odin instructions you received are not very clear so your better to leave an experienced flasher do it.

And the boot logo lasts how long?? A second or two at the most these days. Get over it.

LOL calm down gents. I'd like a poll on how many of us would be quite happy if our device has a splash screen of another provider? Its not that pedantic. Its a small issue, sure, but if you pay good coin for a device, I reckon its fair enough to have it the way you want/expected it. I am surprised that a carrier branded device has no carrier label on the packaging TBH.

Spark customer or not their visible customizations suck and are annoying. I especially hate the YT World. Wtf is that.
I doubt anyone likes the boot logo much either.
They should make these things easily customizable, then they become a 'feature'

I'm fussy about these sort of things so I always buy my devices direct from Apple or my telco in order to avoid unwanted surprises.

Look up on google for flashing stock rom for your type of phone using Odin.
Download stock rom for Vodafone NZ and flash using Odin.
Quite easy, warranty won't be void or ask someone who knows to do it for you.

Just a quick thought for the OP...

When my wife bought a Samsung GS3LTE from E-InfoTech, it came loaded with a bootscreen & custom apps from a carrier in the Netherlands... We had a technical problem with the device that resulted in us needing to return it, (which they were really good about) and when we received the replacement, asked them if they could provide one without the custom ROM-flash.

...they were able to replace it with the OEM Samsung software for us.

Perhaps it might be easiest if you return to the vendor and ask them if they could do the same for you? (this would avoid any warranty-related problems that you might face if you were to reflash it yourself)
