Hey, I had one fail out of box. You cant tap/write on the screen without the keyboad exposed. With the keyboad down it is locked up, open the keyboad and it works. Have done a hard reset and still the same. Still waiting for Accord to replace. as they say sorry we dont have a proceedure for out of box failure yet, waiting for telecom to let us know GRRRR. other wise very happy with other unit!

How odd. Especially as your name is "MFR" (who coincidentally is the initials of the repair agent that Accord is merging with [Mobile Fone Repair](sic)).

Their hands are tied a bit by both the manufacturer and telecom. Good luck!!

Ah yes...no comment on the name it is a bit of a play on theirs! The merger of MFR and Accord that could be a whole new thread. I personally am very unhappy with it as now there is no incentive to increase customer service, at least with two agents competing there was a choice of where some models were sent. Maybe there will be scope for another party to step in. And now a bit worried about second harrier has clicking from speaker when playing Mp3 audio. Hope this is not a trend!

I personally wont join a thread on the merger
(seeing as this is geekzone, not
www.moan-about-repair-agents-till-the-cows-come-home.co.nz). We would all just be ranting on and working ourselves up into a stress induced state of mental un-health. LOL

Overall though, I have heard of little trouble with the Harrier.

P.S. - If I had to score the repair agents on doing their job, and customer service, they rate well above most helpdesks and staff members I deal with (so no flames please - you really do do a great job on the whole)

ha ha agree on your comments re service agents, lets not start that one. It is the sitcky out of the ordinary issues and how they respond that sets them apart in the end though...but I still like to see some competetion rather than all the eggs in one basket like Telecom do with having only one company distubuting product.

Also agree on Harrier, everyone else I have spoken to just loves it- probably lucky that mine are demo/loan/play ones or unlucky for me!

Just wish there was more stock available now...remaining stock has been ringfenced for corporate/managed telecom customers, until more arrives. Hence my comment re one supplier above

Greetings all,

I'm considering getting the PDA/phone combo later on this year / early next year sometime, but I have a few questions for those who currently have one:

Is there any sort of program that can monitor/resrict data once it reaches a certain point - say I was on the 100mb plan with telecom, something that stopped it / alerted me once I've gone over 100mb.

SMS & phone calls would be charged seperately....... granted email would be under the data transmission, but would SMS's as they are managed from the inbox?

Any possibility at a later date there being support for MMS?

And a lower rate plan, such as 50mb?

SMS and voice mail are billed and charged separately from data. You can monitor the data usage by installing a program like Spb GPRS Monitor:

Spb GPRS Monitor or CDMA

The program will give you alarms when going over your daily limit or montly allowance.

Also, can I confirm if the Harrier has a camera or not? A review I've seen of the Sprint version does not have a camera, or wireless lan :o.

The Harrier has a built in camera (still and video) and flash.

Also, Telecom have a Mobile Broadband Usage Alert System that you can configure to email and or text you when you have reached 80% 100% 120% of your monthly allowance. (these figures may be drastically altered to suit your needs).

It doesnt have WiFi.

Whats the current prices out there for SD WiFi cards? I know I can supply them for $329 incl GST, but I dont know if thats a good price or not.

This handset also has landscape screen mode. It seems to be a pain to find the menu option to switch it, so I mapped the "Windows" key (hardware button), to switch between landscape and portrait mode.

The Sprint PPC-66xx Pocekt PC Phone Edition series comes in two models, one with and another without camera. Otherwise they're identical to the Harrier. The Harrier does come with camera and flash. The landscape mode is part of the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition OS, and can be found through Start | Settings | Screen.

freitasm, I have read the review (a couple of times, as it lists more than telecom's website does!
Can I ask what the difference is between the HTC Harrier EV-Do, and the imate PPC 2k? As the Imate / gprs edition rates higher on the SPB benchmarks.
