Just had a play with one of these this morning. Much nicer than the Falcon.
The slide out keyboard has tiny keys, but they are raised, and even ol' ham fisted me was able to type with it faster than i could using on-screen input methods.

I will have one to play with over the weekend should anyone have questions about its capabilities.

Price is $999 incl GST no monthly fees no term commitment on Telecoms casual data rate.
Loads of subsidised pricing offers are available down as low as $249+

Unit is nice to have and nice to hold. Seems to have a pretty good build quality to it.

Whats in the box?

CD with AS 3.7.x
Stereo headphones for music or handsfree use
USB Sync Cradle
AC Charger (able to be used standalone or with cradle)
Extensive manual (better than what comes with an Ipaq)
Leather case (sideways type with magnetic flap clip)
Unit + Battery

Battery is user replaceable, unit appears to have either a RUIM slot OR its just the same frame as the GSM version.

It amazes me how readily available this information is to posters on this website yet Telecom reps who actually provision this stuff have no information whatsoever.

Glad to see they finally updated their mobile jetstream pricing page today...

The TNZ website has been littered with errors on and off all day. Feel free to ask here if you want some clarification on anything you read there.

Just checked... its all still wrong basically.

Falcon price is only $699, not $1699
Broadband Card is only $499 not $699+

Sierra 555 and Gtran 3000 are no longer availble despite being listed. (possibly only due to lack of stock)

Sierra Wireless 'The Watcher' software has the Phone Number and Serial Number hardcoded into it.
The install CD will only install if its Serial Number matches.

I installed the software yesterday without the card in though, and everything went perfectly. I didnt put the card in for testing till today (works great BTW).

Unfortunately I only have one card (but three Harriers) here for testing. so I cant check the serial number matching a bit further.

Does this mean they burn each CD seperatley?

Sorry I dunno which way around it is, but the cd and card need to match anyway. Apparently "Leading Edge" can fix this remotely.

If Leading Edge can do it, then anyone should be able to do it via Telecoms Wireless Data helpdesk.

Just got mine today. Nice Pocket PC, and I do have CDMA EVDO coverage where I live in Wellington! Expect a review soon here on Geekzone.

Instead of Permanent Save I use the space to store programs, and then have more free RAM. I've never used the Permanent Save in any of my Pocket PC anyway.

The Sierra Watcher software is not hard coded with the card serial number. The MIN or 027 number is pre-programmed in the card.

I have had 2 x AirCard 580's for 3 months now and I have used the same driver disk to install mutiple cards.

Thats good to know. I have customers who want to do a bit of swapping around with cards.

I dislike the way the new cards protrude from the laptop such a long way. I liked the old Sierra card style much better.

Having said that, I have never broken a card that sticks out...
