I have used loads of different programs in the past, but after discovering iTunes about three months ago, I have not looked back at anything else.
I have it all set so even without iTunes running, as long as my laptop is on, I can insert one of my audio CDs, and it automatically starts iTunes, rips to mp3 or aac, consults gracenote cddb for the track/artist names, then ejects the cd when finished, blimmin brilliant if you ask me!
Thanks Disenchanted,
I'll have a look at that.
My son uses media player to do the same. But I imagine they are keeping a record of his history everytime he downloads or searchs for artists and song stuff. He has a sony walkman and with their sonicstage a-track3 system gets about 480 songs on a single 700mb cdr. Thats a few albums at 12-18 songs per album
I also have Nero 6 which will copy and make almost any movie, slideshow and songs etc so that must be able to aswell.
Fantastic phone - got it last week and have had a good play. However, two major problems...
Media Player - the Nokia (NZ) website advises that the phone supports streaming audio and video. The phone manual also refers to the inbuilt "Media Player" under the "Media" menu, however this is not there??? The Media Player should be the first item (i.e. shortcut 1) under the Media menu, however the menu starts off with item 2?? Very strange.
WAP - most of the WAP menu's don't appear to recognise the phone, and hence the WAP 2.0 browser. The main menu page on Xtra appears in text format (for WAP 1.0), however certain sub pages appear to recognise the phone ok. e.g. TV Listings appears fine with the normal images etc, however the entertainment menu is in text format. Also, ringtones. The Xtra site lists the 6255 and available ringtones, however when accessing the ringtones menu in WAP it gives an error message saying the phone is not supported. Not so annoying given the PC suite and bluetooth however. Also Games - when accesing the Games menu via the WAP main page there is no "Download Games" option, however when using the "Game Downloads" link in the phone's games menu, the browser does indeed take you to the Game Downloads section of WAP where there are already quite a few games for the 6255.
Apart from those 2 "issues", very good phone. Bluetooth works a treat, although doesn't seem to like sending a 5MB MP3 between the phone and my Harrier.
like a perfectcircle I am still confused with regards live streaming video clips. It seems well advertised as available but comparing the phones on the Telecom site shows service unavailable. I am waiting for my phone to be delivered but will not open until it is confirmed as available by someone with a 6255. Thanks, George
Yes the 6255 does support video streaming , however this was disabled in the handset for the TNZ network as it was not compatiable with there current solution
so we have no streaming video on our 6255 Nokia's in New Zealand. Aperfectcircle has raised issues about the media player and the WAP acesses. Is there a list of known problems or what does work OK?
The media player thing is a big bummer!!!! That was half the reason I waited for this phone! doh!
WAP appears to be a work in progress. Since my earlier post parts of WAP are now working, including ringtones/wallpapers, although the main menu is still showing in text mode. Given some sections are working ok it must be a programming issue at Telecom's end rather than with the handset. Thankfully!! Although, one would have assumed an organisation of Telecom's size would have ensured the entire package was in working order prior to release, but then working in a large organisation with a dysfunctional IT department myself, i'm not that shocked!
Apart from the media player the $700 was worth it!!!!
I have another and I think it is a mistake in the programming. It would be a simple thing to fix but possibly require a firmware up grade. You can't alocate a non std ring tone to an individual number???? Please correct me if I am doing something wrong but the option "open gallery" is not available in the list when in the phone book, and it needs to be!! You can allocate a ringtone to one of the master tones and to a group but not an individual number. I have had it suggested to create new groups for individual phone numbers. Haven't tried it but you would end up with 20 or so groups. Not going there!
I'll explain: if you go Menu/settings/tone setings/ringing tone/ you get the option "open gallery" which gives you access to the tones folder and you can choose down loaded or non defualt tones etc.
But: If you go Menu/Contacts/go to someones phone number, Highlight it and select/ options/ "open gallery" does not appear in the list only the std nokia default ring tones!! So no access to the tones folder where the recordings or non std downloads are stored.
And yes I have tried going the other way and allocating a tone out of the tones folder as a master tone but when you go back through the contacts process it still doesn't appear in the list.
e.g. I have recorded my son saying "hey dad its me pick up the phone" and saved it as an .amr in the tones folder. But I cannot see a way to get that fixed to his mobile number so it plays when he calls!!
You could have heaps of sounds relevent to the personalities of your friends, girlfirends and work mates. And you would remember far more who was calling you as apposed to non associated std nokia ring tones. Also 1/2 the tones on the Telecom web site are aimed at individauls not master tones. So big big draw back compared to other phones std programming "you cannot alocate a non std ringtone to an individual phone number"!!
I have called the telcom shop about this and they are getting onto the Nokia rep.
Please if I'm not doing something incorrectly post and put me right!
Jeepers I just expected to be able to do it! I'll have a decent look at the wifes A680 and check that out.
It would be really easy to make the 6255 do it and that would be to enable the "open gallery" option when in custom tone in the phone book so it can use the tones out of the tones folder.
Off to check out the 680 but the guy at telecom shop said that he thought other phones did it.
Hi, I bought a 7400 a few months ago. I'd been waiting and searching for months and months last year. Now I realise that the 6255 is out and it has a mmc slot on it and blue tooth like I was wanting. Would u say buying my 7400 was worth it, or should I have waited a few more months? It's always hard to know what's coming up.
Ahiru,
I have been waiting since last October or so since the rumor mill started. In fact I may have started it.
Went looking for a new phone and when checking out the 8100 found it wasnt even listed on their site as a current phone the 8200 was! And we only got that last month!
So I by-passed the A680, 8200 and 7400 to get this phone.
Getting to the point it was worth the wait.
I'm able to listen to very very good quality music all day via radio or MP3, not miss a call. The voice dail/voice command via the supplied headset is brilliant even with back ground builders noise. Automatic bluetooth connection is something you will never ever be able to do without once you have it. Being able to do everything on the computer that used to have to be done on the phone is great. Predictive txt is very intuative aswell. My son taught me to just press the key once let the phone guess the words and its very good at it! Much much faster now!!
But if you are in contract with a big buy out or haven't got a lot of cash I'd wait for the new phone thing to die down a bit, the 7400 is still a good phone.
FYI: If you are in contract, you can buy a prepaid phone and esn change onto it. This can -sometimes- be cheaper than paying discon penalties early on to get upgrade eligibility.
