This Wednesday the Nokia 6255 will be released on Telecoms CDMA network. It will retail at $699incl GST prepaid price (around $279 for business users if i recall correctly).

It has flip, camera, video, bluetooth, mmc (up to 512mb in the specs - will try and test it with a 1gig card), and it comes with stereo headphones.

If it had P2T, it would be the perfect phone for me. (I use P2T a -lot-)

Disenchanted,
Been waiting since last Oct for this phone hope it comes up to expectations. It is supposed to be an ugly duclking but it has a superb feature list.
Was supposed to be released on the 14th. I called Telecom last friday and got pricing. It was $339-00 on a new 2yr business contract and free or very little on a 3 yr. Don't think I'll go for 3 yr, pay the money for 2 yr because technology moves 2 fast.

I would like to know if it will take the larger memory card! Will use the std one till I hear back from you.

Cheers

I wouldnt call it ugly id call it RETRO as. Its quite a bulky phone in comparison with some of the new ones but its got a nice large screen and the external LCD is fairly big as well. Awesome speaker quality. Its quite heavy but hey as someone else said its got all the features.

Released yesterday at a prepaid price of $699.

I was in the telecom shop 2day but they wouldnt let me have one till 2morrow. Damn them for sticking to the release date. Saw the demo phone and a real one, doesn't look to bad. I wont be ashamed to leave it out on the table at a party thats for sure. Looks like we might even have a colour selection the one I saw was metalic black, the demo was blue (as in the pics). But again they where very cagy about details. I'm bloody sure there was stock out back, I got the impression they have been strongly warned about giving out pre release details.
So its 2morrow

Telecom have categorically stated that the phone cannot be provisioned on the network till Wed 20th (today). So its not the dealers fault.

All the overseas models look blue, but Telecoms printed matter has a black phone.

I cannot walk at the moment, so am unable to be at work to see one of these phones.

Having checked on the telecom site around 6:30 this a.m. I saw they had it listed so was off down the road from work to buy one as soon as I had a spare moment. They do appear to be charcoal at this stage, even though the dummy my dealer had was blue (incidentally, she said they - Optel Wgtn - only received them this morning so would not have had any "sitting in the back room" if I had gone in yesterday). Now have it on my desk charging - so haven't had a good play yet, but feels great to have it finally! Love the way the mmc card fits in underneath the battery - well out of the way (I had naively assumed that it was likely to be stuck externally somewhere!). Anyway - sorry about the ramble, but "I feel good"! I'm sure there will be some useful feedback from others once people have had a chance to do a bit of a workout on the phones.

My reply on the 19th was tongue in cheek (its hard to get that across in txt, thats where quickchat is excellent) I dont blame them for sticking to there release date. Infact the staff at Telecom Botany (Auckland) are the best in any shop I've been to ever. I know someone high up in Telecom Mobile and have told that person the same! And I have never mentioned the said persons name in the shop or anywhere so its not due to that!!

So I went down and got my 6255 used it yesterday and had a play with it last night. The menu system is tipical Nokia and thts a good thing, easy and logical. The radio and sound goes really well great quality sound. Just buying a PC bluetooth usb dongle so havent test mp3 yet. Voice dail has excellent functionalaty even with builders background noise. The earphones and incorporated microphone is excellent, even when located under my t-shirt so it doesn't get hooked on anything. Radio stops, take the call, radio starts-Awesome
Ugly- not at all looks like a good lads type phone especially in black. The staff said it may come in different colours later or with different coloured covers. So if you had silver or pink it would still appeal the to ladies.

Couple of wee hesitations the radio seems to flick between mono and stereo but not sure if thats reception or the station I listen to. We are doing some testing now!
And I cant find where to set the screen for always on when the flip is open as the light keeps dimming after 30 or so secs. looks really cool but need it always on when the phone is open.

Jeepers didn't mean to write a review

Great phone! it had to be I've been waiting since the rumour mill started in Oct last year.

thanks disenchanted.

The reception issue looks like it is the radio station doesnt seem to do it on 91 only the rock. But i'll try a few others 2morrow. We get poor reception on the rock at home aswell. Have to use the tv aerial. They must have a poor signal or maybe less repeater stations or however they do it??

Anywat great phone fully charged this morn, listened to the radio all day took about 20 calls, 5 txts and only one bar missing out of the scale and its midnight. So battrery life looks ok.

I won an awesome trademe auction and got mine for $80 - they are usually $140+ - transfering mp3's are a problem, i take my card out and use a usb card reader for speed. Has anyone used bluetooth/dku-2 cable for transferring mp3s, what speed are you getting?

Can you view the streaming video clips that Telecom are still advertising as available only from the Sanyo 7400 ? With a 1GB MMC card how long can you record video? also how long with the standard card? Thanks

Has anyone with a 6255 had any issues with Video Messages from sanyo handsets? I can get video fine from other 6255 handsets, comes is as a MMS. But when I get a video message from a Sanyo 7400 it points me to some URL, but when I go to it it says my device can not view the file type... any ideas?

That URL is the lightsurf MMS messaging platform that the Sanyos use (that Telecom introduced with the 8100).

Perhaps Telecom are sill working on integration of lightsurf/non-lightsurf video messaging?
