You can't go very deep through the menus setting joystick shortcuts, you can set camera but nothing further. You can turn the light on pretty quickly though - camera button, more, up, up, up. It's definitely really bright.
The screen is brilliant, but then I've been looking at a T68i for 2 years.
Spoken to Dick Smith headoffice up in Auckland through email. Have been told they can get the K700 unbranded for the same price as the VF-Live version. Just takes a lil longer to set up a part number, order in etc. Please see below
"Sorry for the slow response. It has taken me a while to get an answer to this question. Yes, we can get a non-live version of this phone. If you want to get this through us it may take few days to set up a code for this, place an order, and get the stock in. Let me know if you want us to go ahead and order you one of these, and if so whether you would want to purchase it through our mail order/wholesale department or go into one of our stores. The price will be the same as the Vodafone live version."
If anyone is interested I'd contact DSE via email, address is on their website.
I'll be trying this method when the SE S700 comes out :)
Yeah... my phone was pretty good when i got it - radoio was cool until the headset went missing...
The radio on the K700 is one of the reasons i'm getting it.
Stinga that's great news, will we have to e-mail them to order it or will it be available in stores as well?? I will probably wait a week or so to see the prices in some of the other stores though because DSE are know for large markups, may be able to get another $50-$100 off :D
I think you will find that DSE pricing of K700 is the same as other places ie $799. The fact that they will get you a $799 unbranded one is great. I did talk to Vodafone who have K700 for $779 thats probably the cheapest initial price, it will of course eventually come down.
If you are interested in getting them to get you an unbranded K700 you will have to email them up in Auckland, the contact details are on their website, mention to them that someone @ DSE Auckland has said they are available as per the details in my last post. They will then either ship it to a local store for you to buy from, or you do it online using credit card.
Let me know how it goes because I will try and get them to source me an unbranded S700 when its released.
the cheaper prices i mentioned were places like ascent and pcgear who buy directly from the distributor and offer discounts because they don't have overheads like stores to pay for. EG: the T630 is still $699 in VF stores but PCGear has them for $567.19, thats about $130 cheaper. PCGear have said they are getting in the K700 as well.
You can get a theme creator for all the Sony Ericsson phones. You need to go to the developer website and download it, you have to sign up,but its free. Creates themes for the K700 and the upcoming S700.
From what I have heard it does, just wont let you replace those awful icons.........
At least you can have the phone looking semi-normal LOL
Theres some good themes out there. Also if you visit mobile-review.com and look up sony ericsson in the forums you'll find plenty of games for the K700
You can definitely change the theme, if you're playing with the vodafone version change to the "blub" theme (comes pre-loaded), it is the non-branded SE K700 default theme and looks cool. I don't understand what the fuss is with the menu icons. What am I missing? Have you guys even seen/used the vodafone menus? I haven't seen any pictures of them on the web.
My menu icons look a lot neater and less square than these ones (especially with the blub theme):
You can change your WAP homepage (right-side "online" key) but you can't change the "live!" or "favorites" menu icons or any of the live! hooks everywhere, you can change and delete all the bookmarks in the browser. wap.nzherald.co.nz loads pretty fast.
And I found a site with 300 something free k700 games, some very cool :)
