I bought this phone a month ago and updated to Gingerbread around the same time.  Everything has been sweet until this week.

I am not sure if it is coincidental or not, but I paid for a VF prepay addon $25 smart addon and since then noticed my phone have some issue.

These are:

Slightly laggy and unresponsive.  I do not have many apps.

I use Lookout, Countdown, VF app, Facebook for Android and a Jewels game to keep me occupied.  Also use Zedge and a ringtone thing so I can change users ringtones when they call.

Last night my phone seemed to crash - and I held down the on/off button and it restarted.

But this morning I noticed my timezone changed from Auckland to Britain and now it will not connect to LG Pc Suite and USB for charging.

So I took the battery out and stuck it back in.

When I took the battery out she had 75% charge, when I stuck it back in it was a 13%.  It is managing to charge via USB now but still won't connect to LG PC Suite.

I have also had the battery short cut widget thingy on my phone desktop - I found it useful, but noticed when that was running my phone would make slight popping noises.  Weird.

This is my first ever smartphone.  I got this phone as we got the LG p500 a couple of months ago for our 13 year old. And she has absolutely loved it and I was jealous.

Any insights from experienced smartphone users would be kindly appreciated.

Ok managed to get it connecting to LG Suite and there was a software update.

Did the software update and now when I send a text, the text does not display in the conversation - but the recipient gets the text.

I am confused.

Okies figured that out...due to the timezone changing by itself earlier today and me changing it back, all texts messages were coming through before the existing texts that appeared to be sent from tomorrow lol

The P970 is the worst phone I've ever owned. Period. The only reason I still have it is because there was no point buying a new phone in recent months with the imminent arrival of the One X and SGS III.

I have to charge mine by early afternoon every day and the phone gets so bogged down it sometimes doesn't respond for several minutes. It also takes upwards of 10 - 15 mins to scan a 32GB card on bootup. Performance is terrible and it still has baseband firmware issus causing it to lock up and not receice SMS or calls while showing it's connected to the network.

Quite frankly the only nice thing I can say about it is that it has a great screen.

Well that is why we got the the p500 for our daughter we were told it was a much better phone than the galaxy Y we were looking at.

So I thought I would get the next module up and the p970 got really good reviews.

I have to say, so far  it is better than my Nokia that was dying and I couldn't hear people talking to me on it.

I think when more money comes my way I might go with a Samsung maybe or the HTC  I dunno.  I am a noob smartphone owner.

For what it's worth, I'm using Cyanogenmod 7.2 rc1 on my Optimus black and it makes it significantly better in every way.

The stock LG rom is horrendous and I could not use it for more than a day (due to battery life but also just because it was so crap). So I flashed it with cyanogenmod and it is much more bearable now. Still nothing compared to my Nexus One though. Although to be fair, one should not have to flash third party software to make a phone usable. But it's just a thought in case you got stuck with one like me.
