I have been using a Gtran 6210, finding it incredibly annoying that i am continually being shunted onto 1xrtt all the time and things are slow as. I notice that it starts in EVDO then shifts after a short period of time but wont go back, sierra wireless seems to go back and forth much more nicely.

The overal coverage is better than the Sierra wireless with out external antenna but the SW can select EVDO only which is freaking brilliant and i can use EVDO in a lot of places 1x is rubbish.

Infact with an external antenna i can get coverage now on good day 35-40km from the site, the upload is poor but down load is still 150 -200k at that distance. Once rev a is everywhere it will be brilliant.

Anyway what i want  to know is if there is a manual worka round to make the Gtran stay in EVDO. You can with the Minimax and SW so surely it's possible on the Gtran.

The likely reason you are going back to 1x , is due to there being poor EVDO coverage. The two systems have different footprints in the network. Once you do drop back to 1x you need to go dormant or discconnect before you can get EVDO again.  THe device will always try to connect to EVDO if it there , so forcing it into EVDO mode only will not help.  Also bear in mind that REV A will have the same foorprint also , so you still are not going to get EVDO if its still a poor signal REV A or not  There are AT commands to force the unit into  EVDO 0nly , (google it)

EVDO coverage not a problem, note when writing that i was using my Gtran, changed to my SW and since have had 2 - 3 bars of EVDO only coverage.

So its the card and network, since its on auto it pick and chooses strongest network. All clients unis the SW i have sold have them set to EVDO if in the foot print and find they get excellent performance, when on Auto flicks back and forth all the time.

The Foot prints are different and in a lot of cases EVDO has a better foot print, hence why i can get signal 20-40km from nearest cell.

Slightly different freq i believe which doesn't breath.
